Front Mission 1st is a remake of the original Front Mission for the Super Famicom. Announced in 2003 during the unveiling of the Front Mission Project, this entry was in development for the PlayStation. This remake was developed with story tie-ins into the upcoming Front Mission 4 in mind. Front Mission 1st featured a number of new features, the most notable of which was a new campaign that covers the U.S.N. perspective.
In 2007, Front Mission 1st received an enhanced port on the Nintendo DS. This port added new parts, weapons, missions, and recurring characters from other Front Mission titles. This is the only version of this Front Mission installment, re-titled as simply "Front Mission," to be released overseas.
