    Overview

Gall Force: Eternal Story is a sci-fi themed shoot 'em up that is based on an anime OVA of the same name, which was the first in a long series of anime OVAs in the same Gall Force universe. The basic premise is that an amoeba-like race named the Paranoids and an all-female humanoid race named the Solnoids have been fighting an interplanetary war for centuries. The player assumes the role of several Solnoid officers aboard the cruiser "Star Leaf" as they take the fight to the Paranoid forces on the terraformed planet Chaos. There are also two separate Gall Force MSX games.

The game is a standard vertical-scrolling shoot 'em up in the vein of Xevious, though the ship's main weapon targets both air and ground units. While fighting their way through the enemies on the planet's surface, the player has the opportunity to visit one-off space stages by entering launchers that occasionally appear. The enemies in these space stages are considerably tougher than the planetside forces, but if the player successfully defeats a boss at the end of one of these stages, they will acquire a new crew-member and be able to switch control of the Star Leaf over to them. Each crew-member has a unique power-up, allowing the player to choose whichever character best suits their play style.
