The guys shot their GOTY video stuff this week, and are doing the podcasts now. While the inevitable results of that debate are clear already (Brad and Patrick running an end-around on Jeff to slam The Last of Us home, placing GTA into 2nd and spiraling BioShock Infinite into 5th [Brothers taking an undeserved 3rd]), what do you think the theme of the videos will be?

To be clear, we're talking about predictions for the theme of the GOTY videos, not the actual games themselves. Despite what I did. Or whatever, I don't care.

I think we're going to see a throwback to the old Gamespot days. I think they're going to raid the GS supply closet, pull out the old GSTV props, and recreate the old set, fires in the monitors and everything. Brick and chainlink all day long. Sessler. Etc.

Except Jeff, who dons a leather jacket in an alley and does the Dennis Leary thing.

Lots of passive aggressive comments that start as jokes but slowly become all too real. With a theme of memories of the generation.

But here are my game predictions anyway: Tomb Raider, Rayman, Revengeance, dmc, Mario, Zelda, numerous indie games in the top ten, Brothers in the top 5. Last of Us at 3, Bioshock at 2 (lots of talk about combat being the weakest part, etc.). If Alex has a say, I think he'll be defiant of GTA V taking the crown. I hope.

Numerous indie games takes us over ten, but our polls go to 101% so anything goes.

Sounds like they didn't play enough ACIV to appreciate it so that'll fall down to 7 or 8 which makes it a Gone Home/Brothers vs GTA V vs The Last of Us vs Bioshock Infinite race, The Last of Us is undoubtedly the deserving victor but it would have been cool if ACIV won. Problem with Bioshock Infinite is the gameplay is extremely tedious and there's a huge dearth of story content for like 5 or 6 hours; if 2 or 3 people like The Last of Us' gameplay and they universally like the story Bioshock doesn't really have a chance. Gone Home who the fuck knows, but I doubt it would win. GTA V could win, I think GTA Online is probably what's going to kill it. The Tomb Raider, DMC, Revengeance, Rogue Legacy, Saint's Row IV, Gunpoint race for the 8-10 spots is probably the most interesting part of this whole debate.

I think you might be giving GTAV too much credit. Other than Jeff, the staff seemed rather cool toward it. I'd argue that the GTA mystique is no longer there for it to ride on, at least as far as GB's staff is concerned.

@hailinel: You could be right, but eh I think there's just some really good stuff in that game even if the gameplay is a means to an end (story of the GoTYs this year except ACIV since the naval gameplay was fucking great). If anything I think Trevor making people's skin crawl is a credit to the game not a detriment.

Bioshock Infinite is the Game of the Year because it is the only game I still want to go back and play again.

I know there's been a lot of great games this year but I don't know this year did feel boring sort of. Its weird.

I have a feeling the GB staff kind of feels the same way and I doubt there will be a clear winner. By the sound of it, they don't even really care who wins but thats just how I feel.

It's gonna be The Last of Us or Bioshock: Infinite, which is too bad, because I think Fire Emblem: Awakening deserves it more than any other game. I totally agreed with Ryan when he said it, and even more now, but if Bioshock wins, 2013 was a pretty lackluster year. I think the same argument can be made for TLoU and GTAV, because everyone knew long before those games came out that they were going to sell well and initially be too well-received until people had time to cool down. Not that those aren't great games, I'd just like to see a dark horse like Awakening or even ACIV come out on top. Can't wait for the videos and discussions though!

Bioshock infinite will win GOTY at the awful VGA awards, but not here. I honestly don't know what these guys will pick, however all year has been Tomb Raider for me, that is until I picked up Legend of Zelda: a link between worlds, ousting any game I've played all year.

Those award already happened and GTA V won.

Game of the Year is obviously going to be DmC: Devil May Cry. Biggest disappointment of the year will be Brothers. Jeff will critically injure someone with a granola bar.

I like that most of the people in the thread are predicting the games, not the GOTY videos. I bet they do a wrestling theme. A fake tournament with a couple of matches happening each day. Personal Top 10s will be character profiles. That's my guess.

@humanity: Glad to see someone remembered DmC. I hope they at least discuss this one, thinking back on my top 10 this one makes the list, and I never got into the series previous to this.

The theme will be "repitition," to fit in with this generation. It will be a series of "found footage" videos discovered in post-apocalytpic America. These videos will be the same scenario, in different realities. The Crew will fend off attacking zombies and pirates while they discover more videos that culminates with the discovery that they're actually in an afterlife of some sort.

The Giant Bomb game of the year will be revealed at this point. It will be Bioshock Infinite. Brad will say, "while it's not the best game of 2013, it is the game of 2013." The rest of the Crew will nod in agreement. Brothers will be mentioned. The videos will, at this point, end.

GTAV won't win GOTY. Jeff was probably the biggest fan of that game, and he has stated recently that the online being shit has negatively impacted his opinion of GTAV.

Edit: Thought of a cool idea. It being the end of a generation, they do a "best of" theme, either piecing together segments from the past few years, or recreating them.

I didn't even know they were doing GOTY videos again this year. What a pleasant surprise.

Really hoping for something based around them doing fake HR training videos, considering how often those got mentioned this year.

SO now with Brad finishing the Last of Us and really loving it I have hopes again for the The Last of US as GOTY. IT should win it really should....

They will be dropped on a deserted island that has 1000 hidden cameras, which will capture them playing the deadliest of all games. That game is windjammers, and whoever wins is crowned jammaster and is given complete control over the GOTY lists.

As part of the CBS family you would think they could get a couple of semi high profile guests to help out. And dont know why they couldnt, or shouldnt parry off a few of the stations high profile shows. Yea, would hate for CBS to get more pub. Could you imagine if they got someone from Big Bang, or NCIS to do a quick 15 min video the possible millions of hits to the site and the free publicity for the CBS? If you need help CBS in understanding marketing let me know.

This isn't response to the topic, but the only game I want to see win is Stanley Parable. Since it's not going to happen, this will probably be the first year I honestly don't care one way or another who gets first.

On topic, someone was kicking around the idea of a VinnCo infomercial series as the GOTY framing, which I think would be fantastic.

LARPing the last Canadians. Patrick will keep the oculus rift on the entire time. Alex in a mario style cat-suit. Jeff will write a list on a napkin in a mixture of ketchup and blood but won't actually appear in the video.

A while back I had a dream where the GB crew was discussing what their GOTY videos would be like. According to my dream the videos were supposed to be about two thirds porn and be rated adults only until Brad excitedly says "yea, yea, yea!" I don't remember much else about it.

I'm not entirely sure what to make of that.
