So I was browsing Joystiq when I saw the new gameplay trailer for this. Reminded me of Dragon Age: Origins in a very good way. Is there actually hope for a licensed product???

New Gameplay Trailer - Dragon Age of Thrones?
While I was aware that this game was coming out I immediately brushed it off thinking it was in the beginning stages of development and based on the tv show. I also thought it was coming out next year. I honestly thought it was gonna be shit but after doing a bit of research after finding out it comes out soon it looks possibly ok? Don't wanna get my hopes up because I'm a huge fan of the series and LOVED DA:O. If they can mix the two and make it functional this could be a good game in general and a great game if you are invested in the fiction which I am. Fingers crossed everybody.
Combating hordes of enemies is not why i'm into The Song of Ice and Fire series. So this killing dudes over and over is meaningless to me in that context.
Then again I'm a book purist and have not bothered to watch the HBO show. So my feelings on the series aren't exactly rational.
Looks alright tho.
this has been on my radar for a while, but i'm not committing to buying it yet. i'm always a bit wary of this type licensed fantasy RPG. i like the universe, i like the books, i like the show. i'd love to like the game, but i'm not sold yet. especially with Diablo III coming out the same day and Dragon's Dogma a week later. definitely still paying attention to this, though.
I was already interested in this game, but after seeing that combat I literally can't wait. Dragon Age: Origins was one of my favorite games of all time.
Ha. BioWare doesn't want to make more games like Dragon Age: Origins because they feel it is too resource intensive, so you got places like Capcom and Atlus making games to scratch that itch instead. I still don't understand their thought process.
But, yeah, like others have said, I'll wait for reviews on this one. Looks decent so far.
Looks alright but with the release coming so soon and there being so little information available I have no real expectations. I hope it turns out to be solid because I'd love to see how they handle traveling around Westeros (would be very surprised if it had any open-endedness outside of cities) and the world in general. Would love a quick look if only to confirm my expectations although a pleasant surprise would be more than welcome since I loved the first Dragon Age.
It looks great. I'm always up for a good RPG. My question is, can I enjoy this game with no previous knowledge of the series? I've never gotten into it myself (Though I want to eventually)
Well, they don't really make many games like Dragon Age: Orgins anymore, not even Bioware. And in this medium, originality is not always part and parcel with quality. The key is solid execution. If it wasn't for cyanide's less-than-stellar track record, I could see myself picking this up early for the artbook.
@Seppli: If you read the books or at least watched the show you would see that the only thing DA and "A Song Of Fire And Ice" have in common is a medieval fantasy setting. Then again there are no Dwarves(except Tyrion he's a midget :) ), and there is no race of elves, undead yes but no elves.
I'm interested in this, but at the same time a little apprehensive. I'll wait to see reactions after release and then decide if I want to put my hard earned dollars towards this.
Of note though, this game isn't based on the HBO series, so it isn't a TV show/movie video game adaptation. This game has been in development since before the HBO series was even really being talked about, and development highly involves Martin when concerning plot and characters. After the HBO series was released and received critical acclaim, the developers adapted some elements from the show into their game to maintain familiarity with fans, although maintained their own unique perspective from the books on to how thngs should look and feel as well.
A little more info can be found here.
It looks interesting but man, could they have chosen a worse release date? If this had come out two weeks ago, I would have been all over it.
I preordered this a few months ago because someone took "Game of Thrones" and put the phrase "rpg" right next to it. I'm happy to see in subsequently released trailers and gameplay previews that it actually looks good! Can't wait to dig in. I always enjoy art book bonuses, and am a huge fan of the tv series. And as a PS3 gamer I really, really need something to pull me away from White Knight Chronicles II for a while!
