This collection almost seems designed for the 3DS shop.

For four dollars, Game & Watch Gallery 2 is very reasonably-priced. The six games included in the package (twelve if you count the “Modern” and “Classic” versions of each) are all designed to be time-wasters that you instantly pick up during a bus ride or in a waiting room. Now that they can be bought for cheap and installed directly onto your 3DS system, you can instantly play them whenever you have the time to spare.

Game & Watch games are almost all about reflexes. As they progress, they slowly get more complicated as more things are added to the playing field while the speed of the game increases. Most of the games center around some sort of crisis that the player valiantly has to fight against, like keeping rodents away from their crops or saving parachutists from a hungry shark. Of course, since every game is endless, this means that your task is ultimately doomed to failure. Your only goal is to survive for as long as possible. The game does a very good job of encouraging you to shoot for higher scores however, by unlocking sections in a “Museum” that allows you to watch demos and read brief descriptions of other Game & Watch titles and also adding sections to a note board which give little hints on features and minor quirks that you can use to score more.

Since each of the Game & Watch titles are made to keep repetition interesting, they all feature a very strong amount of replay value. Now that these six are available for four dollars and can be picked up any time you’re near a compatible Wi-Fi spot, they’re all worth checking out together. This is a very cheap and very deep collection of mini-games which seem simple but take a lot of practice to master, and that’s a very good deal.
