Overview
As
Nintendo's direct successor to the
GameCube, the
Wii was designed to maintain near-perfect backward compatibility with GameCube titles. To that end, the console features four ports for GameCube controllers as well as two GameCube memory card slots. Though this hardware feature was primarily implemented for the backward compatibility aspect, Nintendo has also allowed developers to create original Wii titles that are compatible with the GameCube controller in addition to the Wii-specific
Classic Controller.
