Overview

Solvalou is a 3D sci-fi rail-shooter developed and released by Namco (Company) for arcades (using their System 21 "Polygonizer" hardware) in Japan in December 1991. A polygonal-3D spin-off of the Xevious (Franchise) series of shoot-'em-ups, Solvalou has players piloting the titular starfighter from the series in a cockpit perspective as they battle the Xevious forces invading Earth (Location) in far-future 2015. Like the original series, the Solvalou can attack enemies in the air using its blaster and can attack enemies on the ground using its blaster. The game's deluxe cockpit cabinet is unique for its use of mirrors to project the CRT television to two separate displays on the cabinet: one in the distance showing the main game screen and one closer to the player showing the ship's remaining energy. It also features a two-button front-mounted flight stick. It later received a digital re-release for the Wii (Platform) (as a Virtual Console (Concept) title) exclusively in Japan on March 26, 2009.
