    He seems to be a genuine good guy, but is he the <i>best</i> developer? I doubt that. Hideo Kojima or Shigeru Miyamoto would be my choices.

    Yes definately good but far from the best,i'd have to argue some of the original that inspired certain genres of games we love nowadays to be some of the best(even if not most critically acclaimed)

    thats it. the dude makes games that scream eye candy and give you tons of action. mastermind pfff! 
    i'd say someone like will wright was a mastermind, or someone like hideo kojima, but not cliffy b. pleasee.

    Hes good, but I don't think he is the best. What are we basing the best game designer on anyways? sales, ratings, following? There are so many factors I don't think that you can say someone is the best game designer ever.

    Lmao hell no, there are far better and more experienced then him in this industry. He seems like a cool/nice guy though, just a little too big headed about his own games.

    Cliff Blezinski is far from the best. His games are all action with piss poor stories. Action is not bad but it takes more than that to be considered a good game designer. It also doesn't help that hes a complete PR MONSTER that likes sucking his own ego.

    Don't get me wrong his games are good but tend to lack anything imaginative, chainsaw bayonet is hardly something imaginative.

    Peter Molyneux is better but he tends to be a lot of talk, resulting in games that people expect more than they get. Even if what they get is well tuned and great.

    Fumito Ueda is very good in my opinion (Shadow of the Colossus and ICO), his games have a few gameplay issues but are very imaginative.
    Will Wright has also done some amazing things.

    By the way,  I dunno why that Cliffy part is bolded, I can't unbold it..... : )

    He's alright. I loved Unreal Tournament, UT2004 and Gears of War. He's really good at making incredibly intense gameplay. Other than that, he's not as reputable as others. I'd say he's good, but not in the top 3.

    Not that I have a problem with saying Cliff Bleszinski isn't the best (I agree with you on that part), but why would him admitting his influences make him less of a designer?  The fact that he openingly admits where some of the ideas actually impresses me more.  Lots of designers act as if nothing came before them.  And just because someone else did it before doesn't make the new thing less impressive.  Konami made music instrument games before Harmonix created Guitar Hero/Rock Band.  But Harmonix still deserves a great deal of credit for bring those games to the mass level of popularity they now enjoy.  Yes kill.switch has similar third-person "stick to cover" gameplay (and damn good game play at that).  But it is a game that mostly got lost in the PS2 shuffle.  GoW took that gameplay and made it mainstream, such the controls and gameplay in other games is refered to as "GoW" style.

    Cliff Bleszinski is a cocky bastard, but he is a damn good game designer. I don't mind his cockiness one bit, as long as he keep producing games like Gears of War, now and beyond.
