Epic Improvement over the Original 0

The original game in this series wowed me initially, but after some time, I got tired of even looking at it. So, with a bit of trepidation, I decided to finally play GoW 2. This is MS's second big franchise and an epic money-maker. But, is it all that much fun to play?Shockingly, yes. It really is a lot of fun to play. The story is...well,  to be honest. Cliffy B and the guys don't seem to have any ability to tell a story --- they even hired a rather reputable writer for the original game ...

Gears is a game best played by your hands rather than your head; it’s a lot like masturbation in this regard. The story in Gears of War 2 is pretense for the action in which you imbibe, the narrative equivalent of the set-up to a porn movie. The Pizza-delivery guy arrives at a fraternity house where several nubile co-eds are slathering their skin with tanning oil and dropping their tops. Dom searches for his lost wife, having exhausted every avenue available in the past.  The Pizza guy coyly a...

Gears of war 2 takes what the first game did,but cranks it to 11. The story is so much improved, over all the combat is still just as imersive and addicting as gears 1. the A.I in gears 2 still needs much work on its ability to be retarded at times. The multiplayer is better as well, with a rank system, and the ability to crawl to saftey now....

Bigger? Yep. Better? Yep. More Badass? Definately. 0

Gears of War 2 is one of the most hyped games in the history of gaming. The first game was one of the best third-person shooters around and the sequel promised to be even better. Well, Gears 2 lives up to the hype in pretty much every way - it's simply awesome.Gears 2 picks up a few months after the first game finished with you once again taking control of Marcus Fenix as part of Delta Squad. The story is definately better than that of Gears 1, but it still seems to be trying a bit too hard to m...

Gears of War was always my personal favourite on the xbox 360 it bought a new level of tactics to a tired genre. When word of a sequel surfaced I was interested but had a reaction of "yep, another gears game that will be cool." A year later the game is finally here and it really is everything needed from a sequel.Gears of War 2 picks up a while after the events of Gears with a intro cut scene filling the gaps. The first thing that struck me about the game is how much bigger the scale of the game...

Bullet Point Review: Gears of War 2 (XB360) 0

What I liked: Graphics - God Lord Gears 2 looks fantastic. From the vast vistas, to the crumbling city scapes, this game is probably the best looking game I've ever played. Bots - I never checked out to see if Gears 1 had bots for it's offline multiplayer, but being able to play multiplayer with the bots here is terrific. (I'm not going onto XBLive till it's free) What I didn't like: Vehicles - Just like last time, the wheeled vehicle segment in this game feels cheesy and kinda tacked on. Tho...

    IT'S A GIANT WORM! 0

The seminal title of Microsoft's Xbox 360, Gears of War was undeniably a good game.  Whatever you felt about the game's story or somewhat ham-fisted multiplayer set up could not dampen the fact that the game had some of the most solid gameplay and most beautiful graphics that had been seen in a console game up to that point.  Now two years removed, a ton of progress has been made since Gears of War first graced our consoles, so the biggest question was what could its sequel do that actually IMPR...

First off, I would like to note that i am a HUGE gears of war 1 fan, I almost was going to review this giving it a 4.5/5 but instead changed my mind. With that being said, lets get down to the review. For the campaign, you play as a part of delta squad, Marcus Fenix, to be exact. Anyone who is familiar with the first game will know the background info., and if you don't, i suggest you go play the first game! The story, while great, is somewhat of a mixed bag. There is great plot development, but ...

The Original Gears of War left us with, a bloodthirsty type of game-play, almost every kill was satisfactory and Gears of War 2 brings in that and more options to love it even more. Gears of War 2's Campaign mode has significantly improved with more overall action, id even like to say the story is better with a sence of humor as the newbie Benjamin Carmine comes in and your first job is to either train him or ditch him and fight the locus. Then the game picks up its pace and has big killing mome...

    Gears of War 2 1

The original Gears of War was a huge step forward for video games back in 2006. At the time, no game could match the visuals of Gears of War, compete with the addictive multiplayer or have such a thrilling co op experience. The game's story left much to be desired, but the rest of the game's components thrived and made the original Gears of War an experience to remember. To this day, many games fall short in competing with the visuals of the original. Despite the original setting such a high bar...

The hype machine rolled into town and I had a ticket to get on. The view wasn't any different than the last time I took this trip but, the ride was still fun. So after finishing Gears last night I realized that, as a whole this game is essentially the same as the last game. The environments all feel like Gears, the weapons all function the same, the characters all still interact the same. That being said... I am fine with all of it. I wouldn't want EPIC to change anything really. What I enjoy...

Gears of War 2 takes the good from the original and makes it better than beforeGears of War 2 builds on everything the first game established and improves on almost every feature. The Story continues six months after Gears of War, and is more epic and engaging to play. This is Maria, Dom`s Wife. His Search for her is a main element to the story mode. The game makes you feel more like a soldier helping in a desperate battle whereas the original game felt like you were just stranded soldiers looki...

I found the first gears game's controls a little to loose and a story that wasn't that compelling. Gears 2 has a very tight story that is enjoyable and keeps the player wanting to press forward to the next checkpoint. The game's checkpoint system is perfect it makes sections of game play challenging, but not impossible even on insane. Gears 2 does not have the longest story but i think that is a good thing in this situation. Gears 2 is bloodier than ever with more high action, bone braking, bloo...

Bigger, better and more badass does not do this game justice 0

Gears of War 2 is the follow-up to one of the most popular Xbox 360 games on the market. Indeed, the original Gears of War was a hit, with a multiplayer that was almost as popular as the likes of Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4. Epic has now delivered the second installment in what will undoubtedly become a longlasting franchise, -- even already with movie plans and whatnot -- and for the most part, it delivers.Gears of War 2 can be broken up into three modes. Campaign and competitive multiplayer obvi...

Gears of War was THE reason to buy an Xbox 360 in 2006 and kept that title until 2007 when games like Call of Duty 4, Bioshock, and Halo 3 released and pushed Gears out of the limelight. Well the boys at Epic weren't gonna take that and announced Gears of War 2 featuring an upgraded Unreal Engine 3, more stunning visuals, a more engaging story, and more color.Gears of War 2 picks up six months after the end of the first where Delta Squad (Marcus Fenix, Dominic Santiago, Damon Baird, and Augustus...

Gears of War was a landmark title when it first debuted along with the Xbox360. Aside from looking gorgeous it had solid gameplay, unique twists multiplayer modes, and some badass characters. Its clear that the team at Epic aimed to make Gears of War 2 bigger, better, and more badass in every way. In terms of story the game takes place approximately 6 months after the first game, humanity is making its biggest effort to end the war against the Locust from they're last remaining city of Jacinto. ...

Gears of War 2 Dark Corners expansion review Written on Aug 03, 2009 by Andy If there’s one thing you have to give Epic credit for, it’s how they support their products after launch. Since its release in November of last year, Gears of War 2 has had three map packs which boosted the game to a startling 22 unique maps. Dark Corners though, is much more than the typical map pack. Dark Corners worth the dough 0

While the "deleted scene" portion of this DLC is fairly lackluster ( the stealth section is laughable at best, as the theron armor you obtain somehow "masks your scent", enabling you to merely run by every enemy that isn't within 5 feet of you), the 7 additional maps are certainly worth having if you are a Gears 2 mp addict like myself. ...

Gears of War 2: Dark Corners Review 0

Epic Games have really tried to push the Gears of War multiplayer after the terrible start it had. Now with the third map pack they have gone all out to show why they have sorted most issues with the online aspect of Gears 2.This collection comes with seven maps and a deleted scene of the campaign. I will start with the seven maps as this is where most of your money goes. If you have played Gears 2 at all this is what you will want from a map pack. Great looking, playing and thought out maps, th...

I loved the first Gears of War and was looking forward to Gears of War 2 and was planning on really diving in and checking out the multiplayer. First off this should have been 4 person co-op campaign, Halo 3 set the bar and Gears 2 should have followed their lead.  I also purchased the game new for the code for the maps you will never see for purchase later on, only to find that multiplayer is totally screwed. Pretty good enough sequel to one of the top selling Xbox 360 exclusive titles.  There are some new things they added that are pretty cool and there are some things that put it down but it still is a good sequel overall. The story continues off from the first Gears as you are fighting the locusts.  It starts off with B. Carmine coming in and you can either learn to play (train) or just get into the fight.  There are some new characters that you will meet in the game and you meet Tai first in the f...

Gears of War was one of the only shooters I can say I’ve thoroughly enjoyed – the over-the-shoulder camera, new cover system and a great multiplayer mode all contributing to what I felt was a truly epic (no pun intended) game. Fast forward two years and Epic has finally released the game’s sequel, which has been quoted of being “bigger, better and more badass”. While I don’t feel all of these terms are completely fitting descriptions of Gears 2, I can say that this is one sequel that shooter fan...

Amazing game, however may be lacking for some 0

I won't discredit GOW 2 in any way, for it is an absolutely amazing game. The game play is one of a kind, the campaign is deep and sophisticated, and ultimately Epic was able to build off of Gears 1, which was by far a personal favorite. However, I play online mulitplayer primarily, and at times the experience is lacking. Patches have been released to fix lag and glitches, however there are still soft-spots. Besides this, some weapons and aspects seem unnessecary for hardcore online play, such a...

The time is now to judge it and is it these 3? Yes, yes, and yes. Gears of War 2’s story takes place 6 months after the 1 game. The Locus have started to plunge cities into the ground. An Alternative Take on Gears of War 2 1

I've read all the glowing reviews and I've seen my friends and family swoon over this game, the second in the Gears of War series. I'd played the first one, and it didn't really appeal to me. But the hype over the sequel (and a video I saw of the first vehicle sequence) led me to give Gears 2 a shot and the benefit of the doubt.A friend brought over his copy for some co-op action, which is my favorite way to play action games. After spending some time on the multiplayer and the campaign, my fail...

When Gears of War 2 was far enough along in development that it became time to start promoting, Epic Games constantly made use of the tagline “Bigger, Badder, and More Badass” to describe it. When I first heard this I rolled my eyes, but it turns out that this is actually a pretty good way to describe Gears 2. It takes everything that Gears 1 did well, throws in more enemies, weapons, vehicles, ect, and turns the action up to a level I have never seen before. Gears of War 2 is honestly the most ...

Honestly I love gears of war. The first one was so appealing and this one was just bigger and better. Although the story-line didn't seem as good this time around it was still enjoyable. I love this game and everything about it and have put many hours into this game. Although I love everything about it it didnt get a full 5 stars because of  a few minor issues that I get from living overseas. Since living in Japan I have so much lag that I can hardly play. Gears of War 2 is a wild blockbuster style romp that delivers stunning visuals, decent sound and fabulous gameplay, but skimps on story and depth. In a way, Gears 2 is like a summer hollywood blockbuster - full of continuous battles, triumphs and losses, but it's not going to win any oscars. If you're willing to check your appetite for realistic shooters (with a passable plot) at the door, Gears is one-of-a-kind.The gameplay in GOW2 is spectacular. The original Gears of War was arguably the Xbox 360's first killer app. Thats not to say it didn't have its problems, though. It didn't have much of a story, the cover system occasionally had its problems, and the online play was kind of a afterthought. Gears of War tries to makes vast improvements to these problems, yet doesn't succeed in all of them. All in all, though, it is everything Cliffy B said it would be. Above and Beyond WA Julian 2006’s Gears of War erupted from the ground with smashing sales, breaking reviews, and even Game of the Year Awards (it was even my game of the year). Sure, it had its problems, but its winning combat formula won the day for Epic Games, making it easily one of the best Xbox 360 games out there. Beating it would be tough, but as if intentionally, there were enough holes left in Gears of War that a sequel could potentially be groundbreaking. And that is exactly what happ...

The humans have managed to push the Locust back and now it's time for the final charge into the enemy hive to end the war once and for all. It's a desperate attack on the Hive, a mission that aims to kill the Locust Queen and save the human race. Sound a little like a Hollywood movie? Gears of War 2 is a continuation of the smash hit 360 game Gears of War. Unlike the trend these days though of rehashed sequels, Gears of War 2 offers the same intuitive and easy to play cover and shoot controls of the first but it adds in a much larger scope and a vastly improved online mode. The story has also received an overhaul this time around and the graphics are noticeably better. It is clear that Epic really wanted to stay away from the 'Grayness' of the old game.
