That double-barrel shotgun is a nightmare. 

Shotguns will be the bane of your existance. Just when you think your getting good...Hwammy!

That game should be renamed Gears of Shotguns. If they make another game I'd like it to take place in a timeline where the shotgun was never fucking invented.

Are Epic going to rebalance it or should I just basically learn to roll and shotgun too?

I decided the best time to play Gears of War 2 was about 3 weeks before GOW3 released. I spent 3 weeks trying to learn to dodge like a beast and aim the shotgun without using the Left Trigger. From that perspective Gears of War 3 is friendly to the long range Guns but you really need to learn to use the Shotgun otherwise half the game is spent getting killed by Shotgunners.

@snorggy: Lol, learn to use it. Iit's not overpowered so a rebalance isn't necessary. Gnasher has been the main weapon since Gears 1. Much less so now, lancer/retro/hammerburst are very useful. This should go without saying but try to get the power weapons too.

meh. the game is good. but it feels very dated now. i guess since ive been playing since gears 1 first came out. the sawed off and retro lancer are a joke. and playing in player matches only have servers half the time, and noone plays ranked on here. also execution which is the best mode is barely populated now because everyone would rather play team deathmatch so they can just respawn and charge in with the sawed off again. call of gears of war to me.

the game is well made but the online isnt holding up for me.

And for anyone who has hope as I did that you can beat out a shotgun rush with any rifle but the retro, it can be done but only about 20% of the time, and the lancer might as well shoot nerf bullets because its been a joke since gears 2 and yet its all I use, call me old fashioned but the lancer should kill a fleeing sawd off user before he reloads turns around and charges again, but it does not lol, and the gnasher will always win out in medium/close range against any rifle besides the retro so to summarize, if you are tired of being rushed by seemingly invincible foes with a shotgun, use the retro, you may feel like a bit of a noob but your KD and anger management counselor will thank you.

@tunaburn: They must have brought Team Deathmatch in to make it more accessible to novices. Also, I've been finding it a lot easier to get kills on that game mode.

Also, I'm not really seeing this shotgun point being made. If I get my lancer shots in first and stay a fair few feet away, I down them before they down me.
