It's extremely hard to find this game in retail, and the only way to possibly find it would be something like Amazon I'm guessing, why hasn't Epic come to the sense of putting this on Steam (if they can)? I mean, it'd be a good idea, since Gears 3 is coming out later this year, and they would want to gather all the fans they could right? Maybe it has to do with Valve and not Epic? I don't really know how that all works, but if it was possible, they should do it.
Gears of War
Game » consists of 19 releases. Released Nov 07, 2006
Gears of War is a tactical cover-based sci-fi shooter from Epic Games. The player controls Marcus Fenix, a COG soldier who fights the Locust aliens defending their home planet from the encroaching Human invaders.
How come they don't put this on Steam?
You can buy it on gamesforwindows.com for $20 though I'd also like it to be on Steam. I'm guessing the PC version didn't sell so well so they've all but forgotten that it exists. I mean, Gears 2 didn't even get ported to PC.
MS and Epic gave up on Gears as a PC title long ago, so the last thing they want is a reminder to fans that it's even possible. Keeping it on GFW only means it will stay dead and mostly out of sight.
thats all it did.@Evilsbane said:

The Games for Windows initiative did quite a bit for PC gaming. Like standardizing the use of the 360 pad when using a gamepad.
@Zidd: Mostly, it did a lot of bad shit. I look forward to the possibility of Xbox Live on W8, because it suggests that the features will essentially be the same and they will start actually giving a fuck about PC games rather than squeezing them for cash.
For a PC port, it's fine. I used a Xbox 360 controller (ironically), and it was ok. The other game that is GFWL-store specific is Viva Pinata. That's also not on Steam. It's dumb, because Gears on Steam would probably sell money, and they'd still get some of it. Or, Flight Simulator X. Ah well, it's a bummer.
I actually play Gears PC fairly often and I actually really enjoy it. For some reason, I'm a lot better at it than I am at Gears 1, 2, or the Gears 3 beta.

Exactly.
It actually also did Paid DLC before Steam did. Making sure that developers have an option to release paid extra content for the pc ports of their games
Gears of War for PC ain't half bad, once you get past the weird DRM issues and the piss poor conversion of the multiplayer features. Epic's decision to use Games for Windows Live disregarded entirely the need for dedicated servers on a game like Gears of War, it also forced people to subscribe to Gold in order to play in the ranked lobbies - both very silly moves to make.
I wouldn't suggest getting it besides through OTHER methods because of this.
Games for windows live is why. There are actually plenty of games on Steam that use GFWL such as Arkham Asylum and Dawn of War 2. Fable 3 is also on Steam and it uses GFWL as well so a game using it shouldn't make a difference on whether or not it can be on Steam.
