Does anyone know the answer for this? Was it just a advertivesement trick or something?

After the cult success of their 8-bit Master System, Sega decided to give gamers a taste of their arcade capabilities with a 16-bit console. Known worldwide as the Mega Drive but called Genesis in the US, it provided graphics and sound a couple of steps below their popular System 16 arcade cabinets. The Mega Drive/Genesis turned out to be Sega's most successful console.
I still wonder why Sega Mega Drive is called Genesis in USA.
I think it had something to do with Sega not being able to get the rights to call it "Mega Drive" in the USA because another company claimed it. Therefore, they named it "Genesis". A cooler name if you ask me.
I would of liked something with 120% for matching service excellence slapped on to my mega drive. :)
" Genesis appeals better to American biblical sensibilities? "Myth busted.
I love the name Genesis, yet I hate the bible.
its what its always been called in US. What did you think?! America would suddenly be compelled to research the original name of Genesis and then become completely interested in the "Mega Drive" and this creating the latest pop culture sensation to end all popculture sensations and forever sealing the deal on the name of the genesis always and forever?!
They were trying to sell the console to bible belters in the US by calling it Genesis aka a new dawn. Not a lot of people know this but fervent evangelicals loved them some Sonic back in the day. The series was shunned and started going downhill when it was later found that Tails was a homosexual.
