We Came We Saw!
Yes I did, and I'm very glad I did!
First off I am Gozer the Carpathian, which means I HAD to play this game. As a big time Ghostbuster's fan I went into this game with high hopes and to be honest as far as "Ghostbusterness" I wasn't disappointed. Any and all downsides really come from a gamer perspective. So let's break it down:
1. The Good
It's the frik'n Ghostbusters man! All four of our favorite busters are there with all of the gear, gadgets, gizmos, and jargon. Toben's Spirit Guide, Ecto 1, The FIrehouse, Slimer, Staypuff, and even much of the Gozer lore is there. (I'm not in it though. I'm never invited to family reunions! Dang it!) The crazy descriptions of gear upgrades, Egon and Ray talking about all of the new guns, and even the fun collectables hidden throughout the game all have that Ghostbuster's vibe to it. It shows that Harold and Dan were writing once again, and I can only hope this can lead to a new Ghostbusters for a new generation.
2. The Bad
The bad really only comes in mostly in game stuff. Using the capture stream to move anything other than a captured ghost is a pain. I mean that stove shouldn't be fighting me like a ghost does. I also noticed several times when lines didn't play (Audio just disappears but the subtitles still worked) and the other busters got in my way because they were following me. The new guns were lots of fun and I can see why they're there but you can easily get by on just the slime thrower and the proton pack.
3. Conclusion
The 4 stars I give the game are for all the other Ghostbusters fans out there. We won't mind the short game length (I beat it in only 5 hours or so and that's with a 6 month old daughter interrupting me!) or the occasional hang-up or lost moment. (Blast everything or scan everything to go forward.) In the end it's the awesome ability to be the "fifth buster" that makes the whole thing worth it.
For everyone else this game is only a 3 stars because it's short, limited, and for many they don't even know who the Ghostbusters are. (Blasphemy I know!) It is still worth a rent at least just for the unique busting mechanics and fun Ghostbusters story.
