.. if there are any. Since this game was almost exclusively successful in germany, it might be that there are not many fans around on the bomb. Now there are two questions i'd like to shout out in the emtpy ether here:

    1. Are there any Gothic fans around?
    2. Are any of these from the US?

I don't know about numbers, but count me among the fans of this underrated gem. Gothic 3 was an over-ambitious missed opportunity, but the first and second games (along with add-on) are two of the finest RPGs in existence.

As far as I'm aware, most Gothic fans are from Europe (Saw some US fans, and even people from Australia). Mostly Europe, though.

I thought this was a German craze, this Gothic. Like The Hoff.
I will say, though, not a big fan of the game but visually I found, (kind of like The Witcher) it seems European fantasies give a lot of attention to smaller environmental details which I appreciate.

@Marz:  It is and it isn't. Steam version is only patched to 1.6. I suggest you download the latest one, which is 1.74. Save games are not compatible with 1.6, though.

I played it once but I accidentally jumped into some water and drowned or something, and that was the last time I ever played Gothic.

@SpiralStairs:  Nameless Hero can swim in all Gothic games. I think that you got killed by the Barrier (If you were playing Gothic I, that is).

    1. I wouldn't consider myself a "fan" but I thought Gothic II was alright and I'm mildly interested in Gothic 4.

@Soapy86: Gothic 4 is being made by a different developer. I have my doubts.

Bought Gothic 1 , 2 and 3 thanks to a recent Steam sale. Been playing a lot of Gotthic 1 which is fun except for the combat which i don't like very much.

Count me as a fan, There are plenty of American fans, but you probably won't find them on a more general gaming site like this. You'd have to go to sites that specifically deal with PC games or Western RPGs. I love that the first game is basically a prison drama in a high fantasy setting. The second game is great too. Haven't played Gothic 3, but I heard it's decent if patched. I agree with the above poster that the combat is weird and takes a while to get used to, but apparently a lot of German games have awkward combat systems.

Gothic 2 is probably one of the best RPGs ever made. End of story.

Let's not talk about Gothic 3
