Take on the role of Niko Bellic, a Serbian immigrant who comes to the US at his cousin Roman's request, to find a better life, search for "that special someone" and participate in lawless activities in an upgraded generation of Liberty City.
Has anyone ever tried playing GTA IV as if it were real life?
The closest I've come to Role Playing in any game was with Garry's Mod, back in version 5-6 ish. Thought it was a neat idea but it's so heavily reliant on the people that it's very close to impossible to pull off completely. There's a kinda neat type of enjoyment to be had to pretend you live in a little self contained world as some shop keep selling weird things you've made to other people humbly paying via their own virtual little job thing. It doesn't work though, and it's more a hassle then anything else :S
As for GTAIV, I've taken the cab specifically to just use it as a screen saver type deal while I chill out somewhere else. Watching the streets go by and pedestrians get run over randomly sometimes or get arrested etc. Walking around the city can also have it's own unique joys too. Takes a specific type of person to actually play GTAIV online the way it's kinda meant to be played, that is to say it requires people desperate to lose themselves in the game.
Yes, I have done this before. It can be interesting for a little while. I really find a lot of fun in driving correctly for some reason.
I've tried driving within the lines and stopping and all that... for like 2 minutes and decided "Screw this shit!" and plowed through cars in one of those cop jeeps.
Well yes, when i was younger. I did it more when playing Mafia on the pc, that game you really did need to watch out for red lights and speeding and then on the side you where just a crazy mobster. Also you could pump gas.
" Well yes, when i was younger. I did it more when playing Mafia on the pc, that game you really did need to watch out for red lights and speeding and then on the side you where just a crazy mobster. Also you could pump gas. "that sounds like a kick ass game.
I didn't care about traffic rules or what time it was, but I played once trying to see how far I could go without hurting anyone. It doesn't let you do it for long. Once you finish the Vlad stuff you have to shoot people almost every mission. I aimed for the knees, called 911 a lot, and never ran over civilians. By the end up the game I had still murdered like 300 people.
I know it's GTA and you aren't supposed to want to play it that way but they way they set up the story to be so at-odds with the game play I decided to give it a shot.
" @L4wz: why couldn't the hookers be part of your real life gameplay? "Because we can get std's and die in real life.

I tried a no-kill playthrough but it was too hard. I played like a normal guy for a while, went on dates, drove a taxi (since it was the only legit job in the game) and drove normally (a little agressive, but then it's a new york taxi), and occasionally got a boat and randomly drove around.
Eventually I got bored and started killing everyone in sight and banging hookers. What about you? "My everyday life.
Well, I've tried... But as it would only take 5 seconds for some prick on wheels to hit me or some bum in the streets to make a stupid remark... The longest time before going mental on some dude who doesn't get what driving a car is all about or bums is about 5 seconds for me.
I actually did something sort of like that, but throughout the whole game. Throughout all of the story and it's missions, I didn't use any cheats, I abided by traffic laws, didn't kill civilians... I pretty much treated it as though it were a serious Martin Scorsese film. And I gotta say, I enjoyed and appreciated it a whole lot more because of that decision.
" Eventually I got bored and started killing everyone in sight and banging hookers. What about you? "I did, eventually for me was around 15 seconds.
I tried it, so then I got impatient, spawned a helicopter, flew to the highest building, then rocked jumped to my death.
