I didn't know that 'Liberty City Minute' was an achievement until I was about 8 hrs in. I want to know how realistic it is to beat the game in 30hrs. I goofed around a lot during my first 8 hrs so I only have 20% complete. It seems possible but I'd like some human feedback.

Liberty City Minute: How realistic is it to beat GTAIV in 30hrs?
Yeah, it is probably possible, but I would not. I have tons of fun with the game and I took 67 hours. Needless to say, I am not going back to it.
It's quite possible if you don't pay attention to side-missions, and strictly to the story, no goofing around
"I messed around and did side missions quite a bit and I still beat it in 24 and a half hours, I don't see why people are having so much trouble with it. I think how I did it, is I used taxi's extensively, they really help get places faster."Ditto
I actually did it first time around with only about 10 minutes to spare. Initially I wasn't planning on going for it but realized I was getting close and might be able to do it. Like others have said here though, using the taxi is the key.
Pretty easy, I got all the story missions in about 15 hours.
I got in in around 27 hours. Taxis really help, just make sure you have enough money. Abuse the save system, too - if you fail a mission once or twice, you'll save more time reloading and going back to the mission start than using your cell phone after you fail, since the time during the mission counted too.
wierd thing, i checked my time right when i beat it. i got 29 hours and like 57 seconds. i barely got the achievement.
I did this accidently the first time that I played through the game, I wasn't rushing or anything either, it just sort of happened.
I completed the game in about 32 hours first time around, but that involved doing a load of little side stuff. Currently doing a second play through and am very close to completing the game in the allotted 30 hours.
When i completed the game the first time i really took my time..did the dating thing etc..friends..couldn't get enough of brucie...well his talking at least..started a new game..pretty well powering though it..i think it is achievable..but will throw the disk in soon..have been getting into oblivion when i can..mostly weekends for me at the moment
I did it in 25 hours first time playing through without any guides or anything, could easily cut another 3-4 off. I pretty much just concentrated on the story, I went out once with Roman to play darts and see what that's all about and never did any side mission stuff again (until after I beat the game ofcourse, I think I passed the 50-60hour mark a long time ago).
When you fail a mission just load your last save and take cabs as often as possible and skip the ride, it should be pretty easy.
I took about 31 hours and I concur - it's very possible to beat the game in 30 hours. Just make sure you stick to the main missions and it shouldn't be too much of a sweat.
Sticking just to the story, it's pretty easily done in about half of that. You don't really get to enjoy the game at all though.
I clocked in about 25 hours, yes it is possible. If you focus on story missions only I think you can do it under 20 hours.
I have a tendancy to just walk away from my system without even pressing start, factor that in with my going for all the other achievments and doing all the other random things, and I still finished with 30 hours and like 49 minutes. If I would've pressed start before I walked away I would've gotten it on my first play through.
My last playthrough I watched all the cutscenes, didn't do any other side quests though and finished in about 15 I think.
