A Series of Little Epiphanies
In a year full of wonderful hardcore platforming releases, its a breath of fresh air to have a sedate experience that doesn't take too long to get through. Nomada Studio's debut, Gris, stands among other games as Gebub's Adventure, Amanita Design games, and thatgamecompany games, which feature very low stress, non-violent adventures through fantastic environments.
Gris' adventure gives a steady and pleasant escalation from walking to running and jumping to gaining other abilities that open new areas and bring more color to the game through working various puzzles to collect little bits of light. I found myself having many 'a-ha!' moments while playing this game. Maybe I'm just bad at puzzlers, but it was very pleasant. Its a very musical and colorful game.
The less said about it the better I think. I think the developer saying its a game about overcoming grief is probably all that really should be said about it before one plays.
