Activision talked big about its new guitar peripheral for Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, it's shredder of the future. Gizmodo scored the first shots I've seen of the fresh device, which oozes that over-the-top metal vibe of its game while allowing for a personal touch without stickers or paint. This is because the device has detachable wings, made possible by the movement of all the tech crap--the wires, diodes, and other electronics--to the center of the peripheral.

The guitar technically does less; the mostly useless digital strip created for use in Guitar Hero: World Tour has seemingly been kicked to the curb. The same old buttons and bars continue to line the inner guitar, though.

    No Caption Provided
What you're seeing above is stock. This is what you'll get if you don't pre-order the game from a GameStop. If you do decide to go the pre-order route you'll get a less-dramatic flat black axe-style guitar with chrome sprinkled around its curves. But don't feel too pressured to pre-order for the less visually-assaulting wings: Activision teased interest in making more by dropping to Gizmodo that not every set will be this...Brutal Legend-like in design.

A version of this guitar is set to be released for all three platforms: the WiiPS3, and Xbox 360. The price hasn't been revealed, but bear in mind that older guitars purchased with other Guitar Hero games can be used in Warriors of Rock. So, no pressure or anything.

No matter how "awesome" these guitar hero controllers are, they still look like something that poped out of toys r us in the young children section, next to those shitty pianos they sell. I always found the Rock Band guitars to look and work better for me at least.

Although I do say the GH drum sets look better. Ironic.

Proof that you can't make metal out of plastic. Desperately out of touch. A disaster.

So much for advancing the whole fake guitar thing.  I was kind of hoping there would be something more significant in the game as a feature with the guitar that would make it more interesting to play.  I just got a PS3 and it seems as though I'll be sticking with getting Rock Band 3 regardless of whether or not their stuff has changed at all.

It doesn't look terrible. Unfortunately, the RB1 Stratocaster is the best music-game peripheral ever designed, so no dice, pal.

    Don't like it.

Also, they got rid of the touch strip?  BUNK!  There's nothing greater than tap-strumming an entire song and making people feel inadequate because of it.

Yeah, it's an attempt at "metal", but I just want all these guitar makers to realize that they're making toys, and nobody really fells like they're on tour when they turn on their gaming console and hook up their plastic instruments...

Yeah, I never understood that. What's not to like about that guitar? It's easier to slide up and down, thus making it less difficult to play a succession of fast notes, plus, the buttons make a definitive click, versus Guitar Hero style guitars which are softer and less immediate.
It puts less emphasis on mastering the nuances of the guitar, and more on mastering the nuances of the track which, surely, is what it's all about? Duuuuuuuuuude.

@Tebbit: To me the strum bar felt like silly putty and I could never find my place on the neck because the buttons were flush with the body of it.  I'll take my GH3 Les Paul over any of the other guitars (GH or RB) any day of the week.  Although I really liked the SE Gretsch for The Beatles.

I think you're overreacting.  The watermark rule hasn't changed. You'll notice this image doesn't appear on the Warriors of Rock page. And it's silly to expect them to post news and not put an image in the news story because it's watermarked.

I agree completely with you... they are just toys. I don't understand how they can't make them look half decent without imitating some style terribly - metal would just make fun of this bunk plastic. They have had much better looking ones and that's for sure... they only look good when they attempt to imitate the design of a real guitar (which they still stray pretty far from).
