A follow-up to Natsume's "Battle Assault" fighting game adaptation of the Gundam mecha series, now with mobile suits from Mobile Fighter G Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam Wing.


Overview

Gundam: Battle Assault 2 is a 2D sci-fi mecha fighting game developed by Natsume (Company) and published by Bandai for the PlayStation (Platform) in North America on July 17, 2002 and in Europe sometime in late 2002. A follow-up to the original Gundam: Battle Assault, Battle Assault 2 features a wide selection of mobile suits from throughout multiple Gundam (Franchise) series (now including those from Mobile Fighter G Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam Wing). In Japan, the game was split into two separate games as the 12th and 13th volumes of D3 Publisher and Bandai's Simple Character 2000 Series of budget PS1 games Both released on October 10, 2002. Kidou Butouden G Gundam - The Battle focuses on mobile suits from Mobile Fighter G Gundam, while Kidou Senki Gundam Wing - The Battle focuses on mobile suits from Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. Players can unlock bonus mobile suits on both, and can use save files to unlock one game's mobile suits in another (for nearly the full experience).

Mobile Suits

Z Gundam, Hamma Hamma, The-O, and Quebely from the previous game are absent, although they can be played through game hacking. Both Japanese "The Battle" entries have several "Universal Century" mobile suits from the Battle Assault 2 version unlockable in versus modes. For G Gundam, this includes Zaku II, ZZ-Gundam, Acguy, Quin Mantha, Ball, GP-02A, Gundam, and Zaku II-S. For Gundam Wing, this includes ν-Gundam, Hygoog, Acguy, Sazabi, Ziong, Hydra Gundam, Gundam, and Zaku II-S.

Future Century

From the 1994-1995 series Mobile Fighter G Gundam. In Street Mode, Domon ("King of Hearts") and Chibodee ("Big Dream") are playable from the start, with Master ("School of Touhou Fuhai") as an unlockable. In the Japanese "The Battle" release, all six starting characters are playable in Street Mode from the start.

  • JDG-009X Dark Gundam (Kyouji Kasshu) - Final Boss for this era. Unlockable in Battle Assault 2, unplayable in The Battle. Known in the Japanese version as "Devil Gundam".

After Colony

From the 1995-1997 series Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, namely the 1997 OVA Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz. In Street Mode, Heero ("Endless Waltz") and Duo ("Black Death") are playable from the start, with Zechs ("Peace Craft") as an unlockable. In the Japanese "The Battle" release, all six starting characters are playable in Street Mode from the start.

Universal Century / Bonus MS

From the original Mobile Suit Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, and numerous spin-offs. In the Japanese "The Battle" releases, these are bonus characters. In Street Mode, Amuro ("One Year War") is playable from the start, with Char (in "Red Comet") as an unlockable.

  • MSN-02 Zeong (Char Aznable) - Unlockable. Known in the Japanese version as Ziong.
  • MS-06S Zaku II-S (Char Aznable) - Unlockable.
  • MSM-03C Hygogg (Mikhail Kaminsky) - Unlockable. Known in the Japanese version as Hygog.
  • RX-78 GP-02A "Physalis" (Anavel Gato (Character)) - Unlockable.
  • MSM-04 Acguy (Akahana) - Unlockable.
  • FA-010S ZZ-Gundam (Judau Ashta (Character)) - Unlockable.
  • NZ-000 Quin Mantha (Puru Two (Character)) - Unlockable.
  • RB-79 Ball (Shiro Amada (Character)) - Unlockable.
