It's out now. I was just watching it on IGN, and I'm actually quite surprised, it's looking very good. It's even different, some of the environments are expanded on, and changed around a bit, it'll make it very interesting to go through and see it all. I think the game play even seems like it's updated to the extent that people that just can't get into the original anymore, may be able to with this. Also, you get the crowbar at a different time here. Watch it here!

Who here has played it? If you have, how is it? And if you haven't, are you going to? It doesn't look perfect of course, it has some problems, but I think it's pretty good still.

I played most of it today. I think that where it makes changes (aside from the crowbar thing) it does so for good reason. On the whole it is a better game, though it is quite a bit easier and reveals some of the more absurd things about Half Life's structure.

Overall, they captured the spirit of the original very well, and made a game that will be enjoyable to people who have only played modern shooters.

I recommend others play it, it's actually really quite good. It even makes more sense for Half Life 2.

Yeah, I grabbed it last night and so far it's quite a bit easier than the original. If you go into not expecting a straight remake then you will have a good time.

@joemarch: It's better. I think while it still has problems, it's far better than I was expecting. It's better than just a simple remake. I don't know how to use iron sights though, there's only the option under the Black Mesa... thing, to check or un-check the iron sight box, but there's no option to put it on any weapon from the controls. I don't get it. Is it needing an update for that?

I didn't get very far yet because I was just arsing about in the lab. I am having a blast so far, if this keeps up, it will me GOTY for sure. The voice work is astounding, given they are not professionals nor did they record this in a proper recording facility (I think).

@NTM: Iron sights were never a part of it as far as I know. The only weapon that has them is the Revolver, and only because the iron sights were available for that gun in the original Half-Life Deathmatch.

@dekkadekkadekka: Some other guns in the demo showed that they also had iron sights, and I don't see what the point is of giving an option if it's only for one gun. Also, why are the options exactly the same as Half Life 2's? There's a "gravity gun" control option.

For the same reason that the loading times are 10 years long and the scripting broke when I tried to jump out of a window too late.

    It's a mod.

@nintendoeats: Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Still though. I find it weird about the whole iron sight thing.

People complained about this in Half Life 2, Episode 1 and 2 and I still think it is hilarious the only time I have seen the loading times take more than 5-6 secs is if you have an underpowered computer duder.

    Scripting error sucks though.

Just played it for two hours and so far it's really good (except for the loading times). I like it more than I thought I would.

    -_-

Yes, my underpowered computer that runs most games maxed and generally loads so fast that I don't have time to read the hint text.

This loads slower than Half Life 2 or any other Valve game. It's not C64 slow, but it's not as fast as I'm used to.

Yeah, I just wish I didn't have to use my laptop to play it, I can't even get it to run at very high frames per second, which is totally weird.
