A Halo-ass Halo Game

As the naming convention of the title suggests, Halo 3: ODST is an expansion. It tells a side story to the main story, and it utilises the Bungie style of gameplay that was in many ways the perfection of that generation of FPS style play. I mean to suggest that the next generation of FPS came with Modern Warfare and its snap-locking scope site style of FPS which is kind of the hallmark of this generation of FPS games.
So, knowing that Halo 3: ODST would be more of the "old" generation of FPS, I was unsure if this game would still fly. There was no need for concern, as Halo is clearly so much more than that feature. Halo games are so well crafted, and that "old" style of play is still as fun as ever. In fact, I'll just say it, it was a silly thing to be concerned about. Bungie make quality games, and the story telling and mission designs for their games are so well honed, the quality shines through in this game.
It is a good length, and nicely tells a side story, without feeling like it is making something up for the sake of churning out another Halo game but without Master Chief. It certainly left me with a feeling that many more stories could be told in the Halo universe without Master Chief, and I for one would be more than happy to see more adventures involving ODSTs.
A quality Halo video game and quite frankly, being Halo, you would not expect anything else.

The core gameplay is all still here, just as strong as it's always been. If you've never been a fan of Halo's style of gameplay however, ODST is not going to change your mind. Some periphery elements have been changed, but at the core there is little different in ODST that will attract new players. That fact might seem elementary, but it's important to remember;...

Sometimes low expectations are a really good thing.. 0

I´ve played through all of the Halo games at least once and I enjoy them as shooters. But I´m not a huge fan of the universe and I don´t think I´ve played the multiplayer even once. I´ve always managed to get caught up in the hype machine for each game but this time I was kind of unaffected by it. I still decided to pick ODST up and boy did I benefit from my low expectations. I went in expecting an ok expansion for Halo 3 but before the campaign was over I ended up feeling like this is my favori...
