How can it be better than Halo 3 and reach? What I would like to see is faster movement from your character. Also, although reach did improve the forge it's still not as user friendly as some would hope(like me). Hopefully Halo 4 improves in these areas and has way better maps than reach. Seriously, reach maps SUCKED!!!
Halo 4
Game » consists of 6 releases. Released Nov 05, 2012
The first game in the second saga of the Halo sci-fi series has the Master Chief awakening from cryostasis as he explores the mysterious Forerunner shield world Requiem, fights a newly-formed Covenant group, and accidentally awakens an ancient evil.
What does Halo 4 need to do to be better than Halo 3 and Reach?
Be a first person card game race car shooter. With some platforming, JRPG, beat-em-up, and rhythm game elements mixed in. Maybe throw in some point and click adventure type stuff for good measure.
Melee attacks that are like Halo1
Enemy animations that collaborate well with the gameplay.
Enemies shouldn't be expendable drones (except grunts and jackals)
Halo CE blood decals
Guns need to pack more KICK without it being gritty
Death animations and rag dolls combined
Id like to see some actual attempts to evolve the series. I LOVED Halo, course it was a ground breaking game for its time. Halo 2 came out, I enjoyed it, felt like more of the same, and had a shit ending. Eh, ok, 2nd game in the series what ever. Then 3 comes out, really feels like more of Halo 1. They really stuck to the same format way too much imo. Also besides the convenet, all the enemies suck. Flood/brutes are kinda worthless imo.
The first game felt so dynamic in its battles, and the enemies had character to them. I think they need to get back to those roots, and find some new avenues for the franchise as a whole.
Running. I want to be able to run in Halo 4.

However, for Halo to be Halo it has to be combat evolved, so I hope to see some evolution.

Play as the Halo itself and run over planets (and Pluto) in a giant interstellar Warthog.
I like the way you think.
If I can shoot dudes and throw grenades in 4-player co-op with my friends then that's A-okay with me; even if it's worse than Reach it probably won't be too bad.
I think that the fundamentals of Halo don't need a very dramatic upgrade.
Although if 343 just tries and emulate previous Halo design and mechanics, I don't think that would work. They need to bring to the table their own identity. One aspect that I think needs elaboration, is the disconnect of Halo's narrative to it's gameplay. Anyone who's read the books knows what I'm talking about.
There is a rather interesting universe that we never get to properly see. It's like we're always looking to this universe, via-some fish-lens, versus something more integrated. I always felt that Bungie kept getting progressively better after they left Chief's story-arch.
I'm actually quite interested what this game is going to be, now that I think about it.
Like your ideas. Hopefully there will be better maps for different game types like infection. And please let us play our forge maps and custom games online with other people for crying out loud Bungie!
I'd like Halo 4 to be aware of games like Crysis 2, which to me felt like a Halo game for 2011. It could've just been my play style, but I was jumping from rooftop to rooftop and power-slamming the ground from insane heights. Grabbing soldiers and pitching them over tall buildings in a single bound. Stuff like that. Master Chief is a superhero in a power suit, why not make the gameplay express that fact?
Barring that, I'm pretty sure Halo 4 will either be same old Halo (not a bad thing), or it'll probably go third person. Kind of hoping for the latter because I love the way Chief's armour looks. It'd also let people see the awesome stuff Chief actually does in gameplay. I'm not blind though, I know a lot of people like Halo as an FPS and if they continue down that route then I won't mind.

Keeping in mind this is 343 and not Bungie, my hopes for this being incredible and unique are somewhat... fleeting.
What do I think this game needs to stand out? I think it needs to be a contrast from the past Halo games. The previous titles were all about huge wars and epic battles. I think a more survival focused game would contrast that well. We know Master Chief can fight in a war with hundreds of guys on both sides of the battlelines and kick ass, but he's on a (presumably) strange planet here. Is Master Chief as much of a badass when left to his own devices?
I'd love to see a Far Cry 2 esque structure of the game. You're on a strange land fighting with only what you can find. You have to be resourceful and clever when fighting large groups of enemies because you're totally alone.
Just my thought.
Have it play like Halo 3 did, use entirely new enemies, create some cool new weapons, bring back all the online stuff (forge, 4-player campaign, firefight, etc.), and develop a completely new story. That is a lot to ask from a new developer on the game, but it sounds like they are already planning on doing a couple of those things.
Personally though, I wouldnt mind seeing the game go more in the direction of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. It sounds a bit crazy, but I think it could work. I loved the "open world" of ODST, but I feel like 343 could expand on that idea. I think if 343 just makes the game more about exploring a new world or whatever (sort of how the first game was about exploring Halo), Halo 4 could be a really great game. That said, I dont think 343 will do this at all. They will play probably play it safe and make something that is pretty close to the traditional Halo formula. That is not a bad thing at all because I think they can make a great game by doing that, but it would be nice to see something completely different for the next Halo.
Honestly, as long as they dont make the game like CoD by making it more cinematic, I think I will enjoy the game.
It's called a sequel for a reason. Sequels almost always feel similar to their predecessors.Wow.....No shit.....Way to completely miss the context of the statement. Obviously the games are going to feel similar because THEY ARE! I didnt want them to feel like an expansion pack that had less going for it then the original, because they didnt really bother changing things up to keep it fresh,
@Skytylz said:It's still no different than any other sequel, people flipped shit over Assassins Creed 2 and it barely changed and say it's a way better game. People just love to hate on halo.
