So Bungie dropped the bomb and finally revealed DLC coming in November for Reach, but they also reveal that they will increase the rank Cap once the community has finished 117 Million Daily/Weekly Challanges.

That's fantastic news! However... where were we when this counter started? How close? How far? How can we possibly work this out?

What we need to do, is band together, share hints and tips on different challenges and get those babies accomplished so we can get our fancy new armor! We should aim to get something lifted before the DLC, just because it's something to do and look forward to.

My tip for Firefight challenges: Score Attack and Sniper Fight.

Don't bother with people online if they're being assholes (or until the friendly fire is lifted from Firefight online) and just get those challenges in 2 rounds.
I think there's around 120 enemies per full Firefight set.

Not to put too much of a damper on this but I feel like even if we here at Giant Bomb do our absolute darnedest it will still be a bit like pissing in the ocean. I admire your enthusiasm but this is 117 million challenges we're talking about! I think if the Halo community as a whole just keeps on doing what it's doing now we should have that rank cap popped off before too long.

Ah, okay, gotcha. Well, unless there's some way to get the info out of the Reach API I think the number of total challenges completed remains hidden to us, although Bungie predict we'll hit the 117 million mark some time during November.

@Sitoxity:   The weekly update indicates they'll be putting a meter tracking progress on the front page "in the very short term future"

"In the very short term future a thermometer will appear on the Bungie.net front page charting the community’s collective progress towards completing, wait for it…

117 Million Daily & Weekly Challenges!"

It's not there yet, unless I'm blind.

My guess would be the community is at something around 60 million challenges complete.  It had been 32 days since the game's release when this weekly update came out - counting the 14th of September and the 15th of October.  30ish more days would land us in the middle of November, so I'd guess we were sitting at about the halfway point last Friday.  Bungie likley took the current total, multiplied by 2 and rounded so the ones digit became a 7.   But, that's just a guess.

That would mean ~2 million challenges are completed each day.  Seems a little high to me.  I'll be curious to see the number when the meter appears.

There are 78 total days between the game's release and November 30th, so the community must be averaging over (goes off to do the math...) 1.5 million completed challenges per day.

Hmm, interestingly 117,000,000 divided by 78 days = 1.5 million exactly.  maybe that's how they came up with the number?

Sniper Attack on courtyard is probably the fastest clear because you can hole up in a spot where you cannot be flanked and have unlimited ammo.  This is also better for commendations as you go up against a lot of specialists and leaders while gruntpacolypse only credits you with infantry kills.

The meter is up on b.net

But, it does not reveal the current number, the BWU notes:

"Oh, and nope, we're not at zero. The circular reservoir at the bottom of the thermometer represents the millions of challenges you've already completed."

    Lame.

Currently the jetpacking Spartan's ass is just barely out of the bulb.

Yeah, but then by the time it was up the challenges wouldn't have changed. After finishing all my dailies, it looks different to me. It may not have moved at all though.

He's moved, now just his toes are dipped in the bulb.  Pretty good jump for one day.

I used a ruler (OMG nerd alert!) and I'd say he jumped over 10% of the way to the top.   But that seems like way too large of a jump for one day, so perhaps I screwed something up or am not remembering exactly where he was before.

He's jumped way up again.  Perhaps fewer challenges are completed on weekdays, but if he jumps this much each day the rank will be unlocked early November, if not this weekend.

He's just under halfway to the top.  Even if weekdays slow down, it looks like he should top out this weekend sometime if not sooner.  Unless they start making really difficult daily challenges...  At least two of today's challenges aren't that difficult.

I was hoping the cap would lift before I ran up against it and that seems like a given now.  I'm currently at Lt. Colonel Grade 1 and I imagine I'm at least 2 weeks from Commander.

Hit the rank cap today.  But it looks like the cap should be lifted any day now.  I wonder how many people are up to the cap now.  I've played a good bit of Reach each day, but haven't done anything really to farm credits beyond trying for the challenges.

The BWU mentions the meter again:
"Currently, we’re averaging 1.4 million Challenges done and dusted per day, with the most significant variance coming by way of degree of difficulty, and of course, daily player population. ... While early edumacted guesses saw us trending toward a very early November lifting of the rank cap, our most recent data plots our arrival a little further out than we’d hoped. "

That's surprising.  The meter appears to be about 70-80% of the way to the top, after a week of it being up.  20% of the meter left shouldn't take more than 2 days at the rate he's been moving.  But, the way this BWU is worded it makes it sound like they don't expect it to be lifted before the next BWU maybe.  Guess we'll see what happens.

It'll probably happen this weekend, if not early next week.

IT did start off really fast, but they made some hard challenges during the week, meaning most people wouldn't have time to do them, even less to do the difficult challenges.

All 4 of today's daily challenges are time consuming.  Perhaps Bungie wants to slow things down for some reason.

75 kills is going to take 5+ matches for most, unless you are farming kills in objective.  30 Assists could easily take over 10 matches if you aren't focusing on assists.  20 matches in matchmaking is self-evident (though you would almost certainly get 75 kills and 30 assists over 20 matches...)   And 20 elites in firefight is probably going to be 4 (?) matches.

I bet today has 10% of the challenges completed as when they have an easier day.

@wubb: I can't, but Bungie revealed it in their last update here:

To help speed you along (and thwart Brian’s mean-spirited plans), we’ll be deploying a fairly easy Daily Challenge on Monday morning. Link your gamertag with a Bungie.net profile and play one measly matchmaking game and you’ll snag what’s likely to be the easiest Challenge of your career.

Ah, very good.  I searched it to see what they said about the rank cap, but haven't read the full text yet.  I don't have a big problem with super easy challenges like that here and there and I'm sure they are doing it to increase the number of accounts that are linked.  But, glad that is not the weekly challenge.  That would be incredibly lame.  I didn't get this week's challenge, but I do appreciate it is one that truly required a week long effort.

Edit: It went live.  3000cr for this.  Wow, I was thinking maybe 500-1000 for a gimme.  Guess Bungie wants to give the automated credit reset banhammer a good test drive?  :-D

Hmm, I'm reading grumbling that the challenge might be somewhat glitched and not unlocking for some people that have had their accounts linked for a long time, while it's unlocking for others like it should after the first match.  Hope I don't run into the problems.

Wow, if that spartan farted he'd get enough of a bump to top out.

Looks like next time it updates will do the trick?  Makes me happy because I've hit the cap, but I don't think I've accumulated enough credits since to advance beyond Lt. Col Grade 3.
