An Artificial Intelligence Construct is a synthetic technological creation that is a part of a bigger whole. The AI Construct can be a self aware computer or simply a grouping of technologies that come together to form one large being.
A scripted random event that may or may not have been intended by the developers. A source of much unintentional comedy & frustration. An example would be the Imperial foresters fighting each other over deer. Another would be a tribe chieftain getting kidnapped by UFO's in Spore.
The game detects a player's achievement progress and shows some form of progress indicator on-screen.
When unlocking an Achievement/Trophy, the game you are playing slows down, freezes or "hitches up" for a few seconds after the Achievement/Trophy is awarded.
Achievements are extra challenges added into video games that sometimes carry a point value or unlock bonus material, and are sometimes solely for bragging rights.
Part ad, part game. Advergames are designed to promote a specific brand or product, usually outside the game industry.
Grabbing the attention of a nearby enemy NPC. Usually leads to them attacking.
Extraterrestrials appear in many video games in a variety of styles. Sometimes they're evil, sometimes they're benevolent, and sometimes they're very similar to humans.
Games with stories that involve aliens invading another planet.
A foreign language natively spoken by extraterrestrial biengs from another planet or galaxy
Something terrible has happened. Your squad is either dead or missing. But there's still hope: a spare pistol that conveniently wasn't lost earlier. Now, about the army of enemies between you and salvation...
Alternative blood is blood other than the usual red variety.
This concept occurs in many RPGs and Sci-Fi games. The Ancient Advanced Civilization Technology is often a giant weapon (Halo Rings, Giant of Babil, etc.) that becomes a major plot focus in the stories of these games.
Supernatural armor that moves on its own. This could be due to possession, magic or animatronics.
Using any form of input or interruption to cause a character's sprite or 3D animation for landing/attacking/etc to drop frames and stop early. This allows you to instantly keep moving or attacking rather than waiting for said animation to finish going through all its frames.
A special remake, re-release, collection, or installment of a series that celebrates a milestone.
A system put in place to stop players from performing game breaking-actions, such as hacking or using specialized software to cheat, such as an aimbot.
New addition to the Halo multiplayer system for Halo: Reach. Combines the ideas of Perks from Call of Duty 4 and Equipment from Halo 3.
An Armor Skill available in Halo: Reach that enables you temporarily invulnerability, but leaves you immobilized.
The protagonist arrives by a helicopter, a plane, or similar; the vehicle is subsequently shot down, stranding the protagonist on unknown soil. This can occur either at the beginning of a game or to start off a level.
Artificial Intelligence, or AI, commonly refers to the programmed behaviors of NPCs in a game, whether it's the fact that a soldier takes cover behind a wall in Gears of War, or that townspeople cheer upon your arrival to their village in Fable.
Assault is an objective-based multiplayer game mode that involves an attacking team trying to destroy an objective that is guarded by a defending team.
A partial reward granted to the player for aiding a teammate by softening a target or helping to fully score by completing an objective in competitive multiplayer. Assist Points may also refer to bonuses awarded for simply supporting an ally with repair, supplies or a defibrillator zap.
Audio logs are short voice recordings that a player comes across within a game that helps inform the player of the game's story and characters.
Characters that are described and interact with the character primarily or only via audio (most often through dialogue, but usually also using some audio effects). As opposed to cutscenes which often emulate film, the way aural characters are presented in games often more closely parallels radio dramas and other audio-exclusive media.
Auto-aiming (or Auto-targeting) allows for a character to attack or interact with an object or enemy that's very near to the player or within their field of vision.
The game automatically saves for you when you reach certain points. Implemented in order to reduce frustration for forgetful savers.
Automated Grenade Throw refers to games that have specific controls for tossing a grenade, as opposed to being forced to switch out your current weapon with a grenade before throwing.
Avatar Awards are items or clothing that are unlocked for Xbox Live avatars by completing certain tasks within the game.
