Why is HAMburger beef?

I'm guessing hamburger comes from the German city of Hamburg.

Ya, according to Wikipedia "The word hamburger comes from Hamburg steak, which originated in the German city of Hamburg."

I live in England and before McDonalds invaded our towns and enslaved our people there were instances of hamburgers actually being called beefburgers.
