    I just rented this game today and as I was trying to play it for the very first time I get prompted to download a patch for it. Nothing out of the ordinary here. 
     
    But the patch is an unbelievable 1.145 GB download !  
     
    I know this is the pach that adds move controls to the game but this has got to be a record or something. 
     
    And of course, after that, you need to install the game. Long live Blu-Ray !

    I don't know how big the patch for Eye of Judgement was, but it took 8 hours to both download and install on my system since it was fetching individual card data and installing it.

    This patch sounds massive. Most new XBLA and PSN games are that size, and this is only a patch :|

    @Hay4z: That's just insane. Was the issue that they just never wrote any server code? I mean wow, that might as well be the entire multiplayer for that size.

    It's completely retarded how games on the Xbox 360 get patched within a second or two. The PS3 can take up to several hours. You'd think they'd have designed this part better... 
     
    Even system updates are never more than a few minutes on the 360.

    The Lara Croft and Guardian of Light  demo was 2.5 GB and it lasted 10 minutes.:|

    But it's an XBLA game... all XBLA trials are downloads of the full game so you can unlock and play the full version straight away.

    Holy shit. I experienced something similar with Burnout Paradise; I'll have to download a gigabyte or two of "optional" content if I ever want to play it again.
     
    @Baillie:  AFAIK patches on the 360 are usually limited to a certain size (15 megabytes?). Obviously these stack so if you're a few behind it can be much larger, but it's always a hell of a lot smaller than a gig.

    it's crazy, yes but aren't 360 updates limited to 20 mb or something like that?

    I wanted to give Heavy Rain a try last night since someone lent it to me and the size of the patch is nuts. I have a good connection (15mbps) and it was still really slow. The estimate was over 90minutes and of course it crapped out at about 40%. 
    I'll have to leave some time to download this patch and babysit it when I want to try the game again. The patching system on the PS3 is the worse thing about it. It normally isn't that bad, but this is one is terrible, especially because patches seem to take forever to download.

    Am I the only one who gets excited for big patches? Whenever a game patches and it's like 2mb it's always some middling little bug fix. But 1gb...then they've added some new cool shit!

    Different platform but this is why I'd never go back to Company of Heroes. There's been some hefty patches for that.

    @Vodun:  I don't mind big patches either. I just find that this one is giving me a lot more grief than it should. With my connection speed, a 1gb download should not take 2 hours. I mean I was streaming Netflix before and after in 720p with no issues, so I know it isn't my connection. The PSN store much faster than that too. I just think that it's Sony's update system that has issues. Who knows, it could have just been a server issue last night. I'll be giving it another go this weekend.
