Overview
Hidemitsu Akechi was a son-in-law of Mitsuhide Akechi, adopting the Akechi family name after marriage. Following the orders of Mitsuhide, he led the attack on Honnou-ji that led to the death of daimyo Nobunaga Oda. He managed to escape death at the Battle of Yamazaki by riding a horse across Lake Biwa. He later killed himself by ritual suicide at Sakamoto Castle.
Hidemitsu carried the imperial title Sama-no-suke. In the Onimusha series, he appears under the name Samanosuke Akechi.
