“Indie” or “independently developed” games are video games which are developed by a studio without the support of an external publisher.
Freeware games are those which have their full versions legally free to download or otherwise obtain.
A boss fight is a culminating challenge that pits the player against one or more enemies representing a greater threat and/or difficulty than those previously faced. These scenarios typically feature unique antagonists.
Bosses are enemies that fight you at the end of a level or at a significant point in the story.
Procedural Generation refers to the creation of content algorithmically as the game is running. This content generally coexists with standard, authored content; the two are not mutually exclusive.
Game visuals based on mathematical calculations. As opposed to texture or sprite based raster graphics.
Evolution marks the progression from one stage to the next.
When players must fight all of the bosses of the game at once. This can either be an optional mode, or a required sequence. Boss Rush can also mean a game where the player only fights bosses.
The term is derived from the Gradius series of Shoot-em-Ups (AKA "shmups"), but means any shooter in which the goal is to destroy an integral component of your target in order to win. In many games this core is represented by a glowing orb, which causes the enemy to flash when you shoot it.
Games related to this concept can be run and played from within a Linux-environment with little to no problems, using the Wine compatibility layer.
