A top-down shooter game with an 80s aesthetic, a brutal style, and a thoughtful, slightly surreal philosophy underlying the story about the nature of violence.
My brain is broken now man.
If you like the music check out M.O.O.N.

@PeasantAbuse: Yeah I've heard it kinda buggy. I'm finding the mouse and keyboard pretty good is the 360 controller worth a shot or should I stick to the mouse?
The game felt fine with mouse and keyboard for me so I never bothered trying it with a controller.
Yea, this game just gets under your skin and drives into your brain and has a huge cocaine party in there. LOVE the music, and that feeling when you finally pass a part you've beeen on for a while...
Were you like me? I feel like it can't possibly be that great, and it looks like I would hate the gameplay, I dig the soundtrack but I don't know. I felt the same about FTL but when I picked up that on the steam sale it instantly earned a spot on my top 10. Would I like this game? Regardless I'm probably gonna buy it on the next steam sale.

Though I feel the game needed to be left in the oven a bit longer and polished up just a tad, I absolutely love nearly everything about the game. The moment-to-moment carnage is simply addictive, even when you're on the receiving end of said carnage.
Its like I'm not even mad when I die it just turns into this loop of me throwing myself into the meat grinder over and over music pumping, blood spraying its like spiraling down into a psychedelic slaughterhouse. You're in a slasher flick' and you're the monster bashing brains in for no good reason yet you keep wanting more and more.
Yes, Hotline Miami is an truly amazing game. I almost never go back and replay games after I beat them, and I've played through Hotline Miami 3 times.
It's pretty good. Wouldn't call it phenomenal or anything. It does have its share of problems. I just think it's a novel idea, and that's what causes it to be overrated by a lot of people. Same with FTL.
Still, it's a fine game. Sorry to spoil the mood, continue with your circle jerking now.

I gave this game a shot. Played it through from start to fin in one sitting. I felt/feel the same as you mostly. I was most intrigued by the gameplay, expecting a tough as nails challenge like everyone said it was to scratch my Super Meat Boy itch. Sorely, sorely disappointed. Its buggy, and just really easy. I wasn't taken back by it's "story." The soundtrack is okay, if anything its infectious, iunno if you can call it good like Journey's OST, but definitely infectious. For me, the game was ridiculously over-praised. If it puts things into perspective, I don't like dub-step either. I don't know if that helps others understand where I'm coming from but whatever. Definitely wouldn't go on my goty list anyhow. Everyone here is prolly on something that I missed out on and "am just not seeing the appeal of this game."
Sorry to be a buzzkill as well. I'm glad other people got such mind-blowingly enjoyment outta this. I'm almost jealous...
