HuniePop is a successfully Kickstarted dating sim developed by HuniePot for PC, Mac, and Linux. The game was successfully Greenlit on Steam via Steam Greenlight's community-driven voting process and was released on January 19, 2015. The Steam version of the game is a censored version of the game with an uncensored version available through other avenues, although the developer has posted a patch which enabled the adult content in the Steam version of the game.

    Story

The game follows an unnamed protagonist who is down on his/her luck when it comes to the ladies. Disappointed in his love life a Love Goddess sends Kyu, a magical love fairy who is assigned to help him/her in his/her love life. Kyu profiles 8 different girls whom he/she can build connections with.

    Gameplay

At the beginning of the game, the player may choose to be either a male or female character, but this may be changed at any time through the options and has no real impact on the gameplay or story. Gameplay consists of two phases: conversations with the girls and a match-three style puzzle game. During the conversations, players can inquire as to various attributes or preferences each girl has, or be quizzed on previously provided information. Gifts can be purchased and given to the girls to obtain new items or rank up skills in the puzzle portion of the game.

The match-three puzzle element has an eight by eight grid of eight different tokens. Four of them are used to fill a gauge that must be completed before the player runs out of moves while another single token depletes the gauge. One token can be matched for more moves, a second increases the multiplier, and the last can be matched to be able to activate the six items brought into the puzzle board. There are dozens of different items which can effect the board, how tokens are dropped, or what happens when tiles are matched. In a departure from many match-three style games, the player can in a single move drag a tile from any point on the 8x8 grid any number of spaces horizontally or vertically, shifting tiles as the piece moves. Any piece can be moved as long as the resulting board state contains at least one match of three or more tokens in a row. The piece moved does not need to be included in a match. After completing a number of puzzle segments with an individual girl, the player must complete one final puzzle. This version has no fail state, no special tokens, and a much smaller gauge that needs to be filled to complete the stage but the gauge rapidly drains.
