To those of you saying "What a boring iPhone, it looks like... like an iPhone!" - that's the point.

That's the whole idea. iPhone users are allergic to change. You know what their core user base wants? They want something that looks exactly like an iPhone. There is nothing in this world they would like more, than something that looks more like an iPhone than the iPhone they currently have. They want it to be expensive, have a big fat Apple logo and work with their Macbook Air. They want another Apple device, and you can be sure that they're willing to throw their current phone away, step on it and cough up the money for a new one.

And not long from now, another one will be out.

Edit: Also, those of you complaining that it's "not vidya" need to check yourselves and think about the enormous amount of games being produced exclusively for iOS currently. The iPhone and other i-devices are very much gaming platforms, now.

Seriously, with the android out, why would anyone still get an iPhone? Maybe provider is an excuse, but I doubt it. L2Phone people.

But what if I despise everything about Android?

    Buy a windows phone.

But what if you want to use more than 2 apps and have music on your phone that doesn't involve using software so bad it makes you suicidal?

Wait you can use an Iphone without that PoS that is Itunes?

I'm no Apple fanboy or anything. I legitimately don't like the Android OS. My parents, sister, and friends all have Androids and I hate everything about the OS design. iPhones are so much easier to use and, in my opinion, look a lot better.

I didn't realize 4 inch phones with 16:9 resolutions and LTE were possible until today. God bless the innovators at Apple.

Maybe one day they'll even sell 4.5 inch phones with 720p resolution screens.

    This.

My wife has an iPhone 4S and it's completely functional.

I had been doing a ton of research about which phone to get and had originally ruled out iPhones because I already have an iOS device (4th gen touch) and figured I should open myself up to another ecosystem.

After a bunch of research I realized that Apple is the only platform that isn't fragmented and keeps their previous devices up-to-date in terms of software.

Thus, I'll just get an iPhone 5 (even if there's nothing exciting about the new features).

Go out and buy the same phone one more time. It's New.... for at least another year. It has a few new things that you don't really need but seems so new and cool you'll buy it again!

Apps. Majority of the new apps/games come out on the iphone first. Also, people that bought iphones before are staying on it because of apps that they bought and cannot transfer to other platforms. And if you don't value apps... then really there's no difference in owning an iphone or an android phone, basic functions are well covered in both platforms.

And by this time, so many people have bought an iphone, it's not a hipster thing anymore (when your mom or dad owns one). Owners of high-end android phones (Galaxy s3, nexus phone) are the new hipsters.

And I'm still sticking to my old Nokia non smart-phone.

I find it hilarious when people get a new cool smartphone, and then only use it to call people, write SMS, at most play some game of a peggle, match 3 or angry birds variety. At most they'll check email and facebook, maybe some light browsing.

I can do most of that (except games, I suppose) on my crappy phone using Opera Mini. It just seems wasteful sometimes. But who cares... it's new and shiny!

People are still going crazy over these? Smart phone tech is at a point now where it isn't that revolutionary any more. Thinner, faster, better battery life. Pretty much expected with every update. The extra screen size is decent I suppose.

While I have an Android phone (Xperia Play, for the gaming controller on it) i'm still waiting for the next...step. What do we enter after smart phones? Until my current phone breaks or is so outdated it is barely able to be used I don't see why tons of us go nuts for new phone models such as this. No different than a new game coming out a year later in the franchise. A new shiny coat of polish and all it features are better, but at the end of the day it's still more of the same.

I don't get why they are always trying to make these things lighter, my iPhone 4 is fine. I wouldn't even mind if they put some more weight in it, the 'carrying a brick around' days are long gone. We don't need it to be lighter still!

If your phone or device is weighing you down you need to do some damn exercise.

Still on the fence between this and the ATIV S shown here. Really hard to make up my mind and will be switching from my blackberry. I just like the idea of the live tiles.

@Sooty: My phone is full of games I barely touch more than 20 minutes... except Game Dev Story. It's such a stupid/easy game, and yet I actually spent a night on the couch helping my fledgling company launch their first console.

Mobile gaming is the right kind of casual gaming (instead of farmville and the likes on facebook)

Here are a few games on my phones that are pretty fun and offer some real depth:

    • Dungeon Raid (Jeff approved)
    • Game Dev Story (pretty much all GB crew approves)
    • Zombie Minesweeper (You're running away from zombies in a field full of mines)
    • Sword and Sworcery (Patrick loves this game)
    • Scribblenauts
    • Phoenix Wright
    • Ghost Trick
    • Beat Sneak Bandit
    • Board games: Dominion, Ascension
    • Puzzlejuice
    • Squids Wild West
    • 10 000 000 (Jeff approved also)
    • Puzzle Craft (dungeon raid + sim city)
    • Infinity Blade 1 and 2
    • The old Lucasart Monkey Island games

and lastly, not really a game, but a game-fied running/tracking app like nike+: Zombie, Run! (You run in real life, to play the zombie survival game. Patrick talked about it on the Bombcast)

Personally I just want to play it safe and stick to what I am used to. Been using iOS since 1.0 and know how that works and what I get. I'm not against buying something else but it is easier to go with what you know.

Always get the black phone, white phones are for cocaine dealers and teenage girls.

Maybe it was the hype but this doesn't seem all that interesting to me. A 16x9 version of the phone I already have with a faster chip and some LTE? That seems more like keeping the iPhone modern than innovative.

I think I can wait another year and just get the sped-up version of this one.

Still no buttons, still only going to be used for casual gaming (which is entirely fine!) and simple games where you don't really need any amount of fine control over whats going on. Once they put out an iPhone with buttons I'll care about it in terms of gaming.

Until then, basically a beefier iPhone, as if that wasn't completely expected. Do you like iPhones and want a new better iPhone? Congrats, this is the device for you. Do you not want one or are happy with the one you have? It's another pass then.

Seriously, with the android out, why would anyone still get an iPhone? Maybe provider is an excuse, but I doubt it. L2Phone people.

Perfect timing on this. Time to re-up my cell contract, and I'm ready to jump from Android to iPhone.

Anyone still hating Android at this point simply has never tried it seriously or hasn't used it in a very long time.

All three: Apple/Android/Windows phone are great phones now.

The new iPod Touch is pretty damn nice. Looking at it only from a gaming point of view, its a great value with tons of potential. Add to that the great new camera which is on par with 100-200 dollar point and shoot cameras, the music capability, FM radio, non-gaming app selection such as fitness, the size, Siri, map features, and such, there is really a lot packed into it.

I'm mostly interested in the iPhone 5 for the upgraded camera, especially for low light situations.

Why would anyone buy this over an Android phone? I just don't get it. It's the same phone again, except upgraded to barely compete with the top tier Android competitors and with a pricetag ~$200 above them. Unless you like the design of the phone I guess. And you're locked into iTunes... x.x

So where are the articles about Windows phones and Android phones, if we're going down this path? They play the same level of games as any iPhone, if you even want to qualify those as being games that this community would even care about for more than a day in the first place.
