The first DLC playable character released for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, "Jack" represents the Doppelganger class, and is Handsome Jack's body double. His skills include bonuses for ignoring injured comrades, an entire tree dedicated to selling out, and the Active Ability to summon Digi-Jacks, holographic duplicates of himself that aid him in battle. "Jack" is not the same body double of Handsome Jack's that was killed by the players in an unsuccessful assassination attempt in Borderlands 2, as that body double was wearing a holographic projector to disguise himself as Handsome Jack, whereas "Jack" was surgically altered to resemble Jack, as discussed below. Additionally, the killed body double was voiced by Anthony Burch, Borderlands 2's lead writer, while "Jack" is voiced by Dameon Clarke, the same actor who plays the real Handsome Jack.
Echo Recordings found in The Pre-Sequel reveal that "Jack" was once Timothy Lawrence, a low-ranking number cruncher for the Hyperion Corporation, and that he agreed to undergo major cosmetic surgery to become identical to Jack for a number of years as part of a contract to pay off his student loans. While playing as "Jack", Janey Springs can offer to get him in touch with a plastic surgeon who can give him a less unfortunate face, but "Jack" turns her down, saying that his new face was implanted with an explosive designed to kill him if he tried to change back to his real face before his contract was up. Matching his voice to Jack's, however, seems to be a conscious effort on his part, not a surgical modification, as he accidentally begins the final audio log in his own voice before switching to Jack's.
