Although his penchant for knives, crazed demeanour and wild looks might lead to the assumption that Streets of Rage's Jack was named after Jack the Ripper, he and his derivatives Beano and Soya are actually named after a type of snack.
Jack and his twins are sub-boss like enemies that usually appear at the end of a section of a level, rather than the level's end itself, and have far higher than average stamina. Jack specialises in knives, of which he can produce a seemingly-limitless supply from his coat, and which he tends to throw at the player. This makes approaching Jack from a distance somewhat foolhardy, though his knife throw can often be avoided with a jump or a neutral-A attack. He stops producing knives when there are 5 on-screen.
