Profile
Jakob had a rough early life. Though born into Nohrian aristocracy, he faced nothing but neglect from his uncaring parents. The ultimate indinity came when said parents abandoned Jakob in the Nohrian city of Windmire, forcing the newly orphaned boy to live and survive alone. He managed to avoid growing up on the capital city's rough streets by offering his labour to Nohrian royalty in exchange for food and board, but his life did not noticeably improve as part of the staff in the Northern Fortress. The older servants resented the extra work they had to do to cover for Jakob's ineptitude and inexperience, so they spoke poorly of him behind his back.
Life was better for the new butler-in-training when he crossed paths with Corrin, the isolated Nohrian royal who resided in the fortress and whose existence remained a state secret. Encouraged by the player character's kindness and generosity despite his foibles, Jakob resolved to be the best servant possible for their sake. In due time he became the model butler amongst the castle staff, capable of brewing the tastiest tea and performing all the chores in a timely and efficient manner. He also showed tremendous skill for combat when the staff underwent its share of military training.
Jakob is a playable ally for the player character regardless of the selected campaign in Fire Emblem Fates. His prevalence in the story, however, depends on Corrin's gender. If the player character is female, Jakob fights alongside his master in Chapter 2 and remains by her side for the rest of the game (save for a brief absence in Chapter 4 and 5). If the Corrin character is male, however, he only joins up with his master's forces midway through the story campaigns (Chapter 15, specifically).
