One of the first scenes in Heavy Rain is the Mars family spending the afternoon at the mall, after his father buys him a
balloon Jason wanders off into the crowd of swarming people. Ethan chases after Jason using his red balloon as a reference point. After mistaking Jason for another boy,
Ethan finds Jason, Jason tries to cross the street when he is hit by a car, put into a coma and dies.
Press X to Jason
The phrase "Press X to Jason" was popularized shortly after the release of the game. In the scene leading up to his death, the player plays as Ethan, and can press the X button to call out to Jason. The repeated monotone delivery of this line by Ethan was humourous to many, and became a small meme. The phrase has spawned many tributes such as a flash game, and a music video.
