I've decided to label these "Jefferences", because the topic needed to be dumber.

One of the things which makes Giant Bomb special is that occasional one liner from the man himself, which says "there's a whole story here". Sometimes we get to hear it all immediately; sometimes it comes out over the years; sometimes they remain - as yet - a mystery.

On the last Bombcast, Jeff broke out the beauty, "We accidentally pepper sprayed a whole room once".

Personally, I want to hear the circumstances that lead to him "holding a copy of [extremely specific obscure game] just recently". Knowing Jeff, he's probably telling the truth, and the story probably involves malt liquor and the cops.

I don't know if this counts, and I don't remember the episode, but on one Bombcast, Ryan and Jeff were arguing over whether or not progression mechanics made a game satisfying. Jeff said, "But then why what's the point of the game?" to which Ryan replied, "Well then what's the point of GAMES?" and Jeff got really quiet for a few seconds and said, "Oh God, my life..."

Jefferences are better than Danecdotes.

Any insight into Jeff's dark past is always amazing. Also basically any time him and Vinny riff together is hysterical.

Jeff's penny story is as awful as this thread name.

There was a time where someone really dedicated kept editing Jeff's Wikipedia page claiming he enjoys being called Jeff Jerksmann. Like this went on for a while. I think this was mentioned at some point on the Hotspot or an early bombcast.

My favourite is the one where he and his friends took over the waitresses' house.

@undeadpool: Oh man, I need to find this. I don't remember it. Which I suppose isn't surprising since I have listened to at least two hours of Giant Bomb podcasting every week for the last eight years.

Chris with the White Car is basically the the apotheosis of Jeff Gerstman storytelling. It's not an offhand reference like this thread was talking about, but it is the best thing.

They invariably start with some kind of Jefference, though (yeah, I'm sticking with it). In the rules I just made up, I think it still counts if we go on to get the whole anecdote.

Chris With a White Car includes a couple of top examples, such as:

"I found a girl in my closet"

... and,

"I saw like someone out of the corner of my eye as I was playing - you know, it's the sort of house where people just walk in ... turn over there, it's a cop, like gun out ... pointed in my general direction"

These are lines which make me want to hear the rest of the story.

"[Insert thing here] of the weeeeeeeeeek"

Stories from The Compound and his mate with the white car, still gets me every time.

This podcast. He was moving out of his infamous adobe foundationed house and was packing his games collection over the weekend and they still recorded the podcast on Mondays, hence the "not 24 hours ago" part that everyone seems to have forgotten.

The time he was on the Sega conference call announcing the end of the Dreamcast, but was home sick and listening to it on the toilet. Suddenly/unexpectedly (as he did not request to ask a question), they say "next question is from Jeff Gerstmann." Jeff just sits there silently as he can on the toilet until they give up and go to the next question.

"I lived at home until I was 25... and then I moved out as a joke."

Jeff wanting to ride Dumbo isn't really a reference thing, but my favorite Jeff/Ryan moments :D

... How have I not heard that one before?

Also it's notable how much Brad's laugh coming in at the end can help improve every Jefference (I scientifically estimate a 34% improvement in the anecdote quality).

If anyone remembers the, "Chris in the white car". story that's totally my favorite.

Also whenever he talks about anything from his childhood.
