    James "Jimmy" Hopkins, 15 years old, is Bullworth Academy's newest student, as well as Bully's main protagonist and sole playable character. Jimmy is sent by his mother as she takes a year-long honeymoon cruise with her new husband. Jimmy's troubled history is well known: he has been expelled on seven other occasions for bad behaviour. Bullworth Academy is his last chance of avoiding a youth detention centre. Hopkins possesses an easily swayed personality. Initially goalless, he is quickly persuaded by Gary Smith to support his plans to takeover the academy. Once discarded, he becomes Gary's rival, vying for control of the school's coteries; however, he becomes, in actuality, an unwitting pawn in Smith's grand scheme. Notwithstanding the fact that he is a bully in his own right, James does have a tendency to favor those less capable of defending themselves.
