I'm expecting something underwhelming. I'd love to be proven wrong.

@dudeglove: I read Masters of Doom and even just seeing this thread title made me smile. I'm still very much okay with this. Hope it turns out okay.

Oh so that's why he moved to Ireland.

@xymox Romero is an absolute treat to follow on twitter. The book seems to make people a little larger than life, but since reading that (and posting here) I've watched the Double Fine "Dev's Play" with him, which is a whole load of fun to watch, and he's quite a charming fellow. For those that missed the news a while back and Brad playing it repeatedly in UPF, Romero did in fact make a new Doom level recently which I think was sort of inspired by someone bugging him by the fact that he never made a proper finale to the first chapter of Doom, and so as part of the whole "Doom is now 21 years old and can now drink" celebrations he went back and made E1M8b (on top of unearthing old files and unreleased art assets and what not).

So who is actually part of NightWork games? The Kickstarter mentions only Romero as Game Lead, Carmack as Art Director, and Lynch as Metal Composer. That can't be all, right? The KS is probably going to be successful, but right now it seems like the funding may be a bit under expectations, especially considering the names attached to it.

Should've paid Sony to give a mention during E3.

I've been let down too many times by Kickstarters, I'll just wait until the full release. Glad Romero is back making an FPS though!

To be fair, John Carmack was the tech guy, he's always has been focused on that. Adrian Carmack was responsible for a lot of the character of Doom, so its still an important collab. Just don't expect it to be technologically groundbreaking.

...and it's cancelled. The Kickstarter that is. The crowdfunding campaign was stalling out a bit and it seemed unlikely to hit its goal, so it's being put on hold for now while they produce a gameplay prototype to show people.

@chaser324: Legitimately not surprised by that. Actually expected it to be cancelled once it wasn't close after 24 hours. I think not having any gameplay footage really hurts as we know the promises John Romero likes to spew and fail to deliver on.
