The Majors
Jonathan Papelbon was first drafted into the major leagues in 2003, but declined stating that he wanted to play for one more year in college. Papelbon was later drafted to the Boston Red Sox in the eighteenth round. He made his first appearance with the Red Sox in 2005 and proceeded to strike out seven batters, but walked five batters.
Records
A year later in 2006 Papelbon finished the season as one of the best rookie relievers with 75 stike outs and saved 35 games. Papelbon currently holds the most recorded saves of a Red Sox pitcher and was the first pitcher in Red Sox history to have thirty saves in a season. He has also been chosen to play in the American League All-Star Team since 2006 up until 2009.
