    Infamous for the conquest of Gaul (modern France and Belgium) and his subsequent coup of the Roman Republic which he changed into a empire that is remembered even to today.

    Julius Caesar was assassinated on March 15, 44 BC. He was due to appear at the Senate, and when he arrived he was attacked by sixty men who stabbed him 23 times. Shakespeare states Caesar's last words to have been "Et tu, Brute?" ("You too, Brutus?")
