Middling Gameplay ALMOST gets in the way of an enjoyable plot
OK, so I went into this game with some idea of it being terrible or whatever. It's hard not to when the game is 7 years old. I didn't know why, but I know it was bad. From the very start I realized that the controls felt awkward and at times made the game seem harder than it actually was. This can be frusterating, but something told me to fight through it.
It was the characters. None of them are likeable. They are all huge criminals. But man, are they are one big trainwreck. Between the spats between the two titular characters, and the absurd actions of the villians in the game, a group of crime bosses named The 7, I was able to find some real enjoyment out of this game. Kane, the character you play has pretty much destroyed his own life and is doing whatever he can to save the little bit thats left. On the other side of the coin is Lynch, a loose cannon with some "problems". It's OK, he has pills to keep him from freaking out and shooting innocent hostages. (Spoiler, the pills run out.) The two of them make quite the "team".
The other thing that struck me as odd about this game was it's length. At around 5 1/2 hours it wasn't the shortest game I've played lately. (That honor probably goes to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3). I was just a little surprised when the story reached it's climax and then before you know it the credits just start rolling. This may disueade some players but seeing as the game is 7 years old and often on sale if your looking for a game with some interesting character interactions, that might be a little rough around the edges you should check it out. Even after all the negativity surrounding this game, you may just find yourself having an OK time with a game thats supposed to be crap.
