The fighting game series that defined high-risk, high-reward combos returns as a free-to-play launch title for the Xbox One, later receiving constant updates with new characters and game modes. It can also be played on Windows 10 systems with cross-platform multiplayer.
@blu3v3nom07: TJ Combo, Cinder, and that roboty guy I can't remember the name of come to mind (edit: Fulgore). Mostly TJ Combo, though. Love that guy and how ridiculous he is.
Fulgore HAS to be in this game. For me he's the iconic Killer Instinct character. I had heard Cinder and Spinal also. Honestly don't know why all of them aren't, but I guess DLC or whatever.
That sure is a fighting game. Will take a lot to make one of these things a main stream hit.
Feel like a good online ranking system that pits new people against other new people instead of people who have been playing FGs for like 12 years+ will be a big step forward. Never played a FG that could pull that off.
It's a significant part of what made League of Legends so successful. The level system they've got going for players for the first 50 or so matches prevents anyone who isn't smurfing from wreaking face in a newbie's game, allowing the new players to actually have a chance to learn and win their matches.
This is the first I've seen of it since EVO (looked ROUGH there), this looks alright! Having tutorials that break things down some of those fundamentals is something that fighting games have needed for a while now; Skullgirls was a good start but not quite far enough. The tutorial that shows options against fireball by jumping straight up or cr.MK instead of jumping in every time, being able to enable hitboxes/step-frame/display at half speed, all sounds fantastic.
Also having the menu music play when you move up/down on the menus is incredible. Shame it's Xbox only, though maybe we could see a PC version? No? Alright then.
Was just checking a video on that before. The tutorials in this look really damn good.

It would be really odd if they didn't have the full KI1 cast in this game from the get-go, since there weren't that many characters to begin with. Hell, if they add Fulgore (who is pretty much guaranteed, being the poster boy for the series) the only ones left are Cinder, T.J. Combo, and Riptor.
That tutorial system is really good and I'm surprised I haven't seen this before. I'm a fighting game fan but I don't know all the vocabulary and to be frank I don't know much about controlling, juggling, and what all those things mean. Even more excited for this game!
I visited that giant Xbox One in Vancouver tonight and got to play a round. I just dabble with fighting games but Killer Instinct seemed solid, if I didn't know it was developed by Double Helix I could be fooled into thinking this came from an experienced Japanese developer. We won't really know how it stacks up balance-wise until shoryuken.com rips it apart but I enjoyed my time. Jago, Sabrewulf, Glacius and Chief Thunder were the playable characters in the demo.
