Definately I think Sony should really push this option before the next gen especially with their exclusive stuff.

I already have Borderlands and obviously a few PSN games too. If the price isn't rediculous like ME2 atm then I would go for digital over box.

If the option was there, would you buy Killzone 3 from PSN to install on your hard-drive?

For such a multiplayer-focused game, I know I would. If I wanted to play a bit of multiplayer for a few hours I could just launch it from the XMB without having to swap discs etc.

So, given the option, would you buy Killzone 3 digitally? Let's say they were selling it for $59.99 + tax, and including the retro map pack and a dynamic theme.

42 gigs is a lot to download, so probably not since I only have a 80gig.  But if I had a bigger hard drive then maybe.

Seeing as Sony charges developers for the bandwidth, I'd say no(the game is 40GBs with the 3D movies and 20 without)
The average consumer does not have the connection for such a transfer either.

PSN (and XBL) are tying your downloads to an account, which country-location you can not change.  If you move into a different country and you want to use the store there, you stuff is gone. A disc is always there for you.

It depends.  Will Sony let me download it as many times as I'd like to?  Otherwise, I feel like I'm paying for a limited license rather than owning the actual game.  In that case, absolutely not.

Usually yes - with all PSN content. I never bought a full game there. As long as you use the same PSN account.

Is it accurate to say you can download a game to 5 different PS3's with the same account, with no limit on how many times you download the software to each system?

I guess so. I do not know how this affects multiplayer though. I would assume your KZ3 account is tied to your PSN account. I never really went into this game sharing business with strangers. You are in for a scam. Those 5 PS3s are really only for people having multiple ones - like at home and at a holiday home or so.

I wanted to add that I am totally into the discless future, but I belong to a certain demographic where moving to different countries for jobs is common, and Sony&MS are not taking care of those people. In contrast to Apple btw, which you can just call up and you can keep & use all your stuff, even if it is not available in your current country.

    I wouldn't for two reasons:
    1) Digital releases are crazy expensive, full retail priced. I never buy my games at stores that charge the full recommended price.

    2) Killzone 2 was not for me, it's still unfinished on my pile of shame.

On second thought, I tend to eBay my copy to fund future purchases.  I generally get about 50-70 percent back and use that toward full priced games, usually.  Gosukiller's point makes me feel that to truly be on board with digital downloads on consoles, prices would have to be comparable to Steam.

No freaking way, even if I was interested in the game. They made Blu-Ray discs hold a lot of data for a reason, I don't need to be filling my PS3 HDD drive up with that.

I would if I could have it in a timely fashion, but I have a store only 5 minutes away on foot, so that's probably faster.

Frankly I try to keep my PSN shopping to a minimum. I just find it hard to support a service that doesn't update their prices according to their hard copy counterparts. For example. I can buy Awakenings for $17 off of amazon but it's still $40 on PSN. They just don't make it very appealing to me in order to make me spend money there.

I would always like to have the option.

But specifically Killzone 3 i would not buy digitally, because i will want to sell it shortly after beating the single player campaign. Not interested in playing it online. I do this with a lot of games, it's better than renting for a number of reasons.

Now if they were offering a digital rental on PSN...

Nope. I'd rather go get a disc than take up half of my ps3's hard drive with it.

I think Sony encourage first party devs to use up the whole disc.  I suppose there is no point compressing the music, textures, etc if you are not looking to port it to another console or span across DVDs.  For comparison I believe Bulletstorm is like 6gb on PS3.
