After watching the secret trailer at the end of KH2, I was totally hyped for KH3, possibly arriving on PS3. Then...they decided to release a bunch of random ones on handheld and postpone KH3 indefinitely?  
 
I haven't really followed the KH franchise outside of the first two main games, so if someone could enlighten me on this matter that would be great.

The PSP one is pretty good though.

The primary Kingdom Hearts team is working on Versus XIII.  The handheld games (aside from Chain of Memories, which was made between KH1 and KH2) are prequels (Birth by Sleep) sidestories (358/2 Days) and sequels (Re: coded, Dream Drop Distance).  There likely won't be a KH3 until Versus XIII is finished.

Yeah I have been asking the same question for a while now. I loved the first two games and the fact that they haven't even mentioned a third is kind of ridiculous. I did play the gameboy advance game that took place between the first and second one and it actually filled in a lot of backstory. So what I'm most afraid of is them making a third one that makes absolutely no sense unless you played the handheld games in between.

I also feel like this is a weird path for the KH series. I loved KH1 and 2, but the handheld ones were completely irrelevant, even the PSP one. I bought a PSP for this, thinking i'd relive some of the KH2 greatness, but man was it the worst purchase ever.

The secret video to Kingdom Hearts 2 is actually Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep on PSP.  That game is one of the more important game in terms to the story and how it will connect everything to Kingdom Hearts 3.
It would probably be a very good idea to play that if you are waiting for Kingdom Hearts 3.  Nomura also said that he would not be working on Kingdom Hearts 3 until he is at least done with Final Fantasy Versus XIII, so that will be a while.

Holy shit, Kingdom hearts 2 was for the PS2? Man, it has been a lot longer than I thought since I played a JRPG. 
 
Time to go through a run of Dragon Quest again, maybe I'll do 4 this time, 5 was cool, but it started getting boring for me once the kids saved the parents.

Them Kingdom Hearts dudes are working on Versus 13.

Nomura needs cash for Versus XIII.  

They're made with Japan in mind, and in Japan, EVERYONE has both a DS, and a PSP.

So they can remake it as a console game later.

Cause Japan loves handhelds.
