The Nintendo DS as a utility/lifestyle device continues to amaze me. As much as I like gaming on it (my recent flight from San Francisco to Indianapolis went by in jiffy thanks to Geometry Wars), I also enjoy the utility apps poised as games - e.g. the Ubisoft language games (My French Coach etc.). The latest is the Korg DS-10 Synthesizer, a stripped down synth/sequencer. It's basically a 3 track sequencer (two synth tracks and one drum track, although the drum sequence can be edited to add more tracks) and offers some more recent features found on Korg devices such as the Kaoss pad. You can also use the WiFi on the DS to link up to other DS's using the software and colaberate. I'm still playing around with it, so I'm slowly discovering what the limits are with the software, but for the $36 I paid for it, it's a great deal. Although the DS was a bit underwhelming during it's first year, it's finally starting to show it's real versatility - rock on...
