    For over a thousand years, Kyoto was called Heian-kyō and served as the Imperial capital of Japan, until the Imperial Court moved to Tokyo in 1868. The city is in the southern-central region of the island of Honshu and serves as the capital of the Kyoto Prefecture.

    Nintendo

    Kyoto is the home of Nintendo's world headquarters. The company was first established in Kyoto in 1889 as a hanafuda card printer and manufacturer and has remained based in the city since its transition into a video game company.
