But just think of how deliciously European you can be about the whole situation - quietly smoking a thin cigarette on a stool in the corner of a dark bar while you wait for your game.

hmm  I have Amazon Prime and thought i would get it on release date for free, yesterday it said estimated arrival on the 18th.   Yet i check the tracking and it says it's out for delivery, so guess i'm getting it today after all.
I've never had a problem before on about 4 previous orders of them being late, so i was kind of freaking out when i thought i was getting it the 18th.

My copy of LA Noire arrived in my city nine hours ago and is in transite to my home. I got the game for $40 and free day 1 shipping. Win!

Not sure... How do you know Amazon's release date was delayed? I pre-ordered as well, but of course I won't be getting it today because of shipping.

Doesn't look like it. My copy arrived in my city around midnight last night (or this morning, whatever) and is "out for delivery". Sucks to hear your delivery is delayed though.

I just pre-ordered mine a few days ago and my status is "Shipping Soon."

Mine's scheduled to arrive around 4pm today from UPS. What does your tracking describe? Maybe you can contact Amazon support or something to have it delivered from someplace else?

Yeah, Prime members get free release day shipping for video games. I'm only a member because I got a free one year membership for being a college student.

Thankfully my copy is already on it's way via the local distribution center.
The question isn't about Prime membership but Region. I'm in California and all my stuff ships out of their Arizona facility.

My copy is en route to my house as we speak. I've only once received a release-date delivery late, but it was due to legitimate weather delays.

Just had this problem with the Witcher.  I emailed them on Friday and they told me they didn't have it in stock yet (despite the fact every other UK retailer shipped the game on Friday or Saturday).  Only had it dispatched yesterday and shockingly it hasn't arrived yet and isn't likely to until sometime tomorrow afternoon.

Pretty put off by Amazon's service in general at this point.

A little off topic, but I find it odd when people pre-order games online and get first day shipping.  If something messes up, I would be pissed.  I would rather walk into GameStop and get it there right away then take a chance and get the game a day or two later.

@JJOR64: I think generally people who pre-order online do it because they don't care exactly when they get it, and want the convenience of just having it show up at their house, but still want pre-order bonuses and whatnot. I tend to agree, if I'm going to pre-order a game, it'll be on Steam or at Gamestop. That way I can pick it up at midnight or what have you.

@JJOR64: I live in a city and use my car about once a month so I've taken to ordering everything online.  I consider it a plus given that Amazon usually hands out free money like candy and now gives you cheap release day shipping.  Plus I don't have to go to Gamestop.

My games usually go Delaware to DC without any problems.  Waiting at home as we speak.

I pre-order for the very oppositte reason, to get the game release day, plus the bonuses. But there is this caveat, that I may not see the game till 7;30 or so tonight. just how UPS delivery works for me. I of course accept that as the roll.

I've had Amazon botch release date shipping ONE time, they made up for it by giving me 10 dollars, more or less ok in my book. Then again it was about Halo and not something I was dying to have, hard to say how I would feel if it were a Rockstar game.

Location is the other factor, I would have to drive for about 3 hours round trip to get to the nearest Gamestop/Best Buy/KMart.
Pre-ordering from Amazon generally means I'll have the game at about the same I would if I went to the store myself, and I don't have to waste extra money on gas or try to leave work early.

As most have said, it's rare for the game not to show up on release day. People who have jobs generally come home to find the package waiting for them, which is more convenient than stopping by GameStop. The $20 credit and no tax (another $6 in my county) helps as well.

Some people live in rural towns, like myself, and it's hard to drive to the city in the middle of the week. Release date shipping is a great option for people like us.

I'm another one who doesn't live close enough to a game store to be able to just go down on the day of release and pick up a game.  There's also the fact that ordering online is generally cheaper and (in the UK at least) often guarantees you'll get the game a day or two before the official release.

Sorry to hear that man, I know three people that are probably going to have their package delayed 1-2 days as well. Wonder if there was some sort of widespread problem with this game. Could just be a coincidence of course, though.

I don't really see how Amazon is at fault here...

If people didn't know, it was a UPS plane that caused the issue (which really isn't their fault either. Shit happens.) and it just so happens Amazon got screwed by it. It's not like they got the copies and forgot to send them out or anything.

I've always had an issue with getting my game on release day from Amazon. Every game I've pre-ordered from Amazon would arrive at least 4-7 days after it's launch day. Heck, I've bought used games from third party vendors that would arrive sooner than new games I've pre-ordered.

I would buy it from a brick'n mortor but I like getting the Amazon card purchase points.

I never had any issues with Amazon's release day delivery system but they do state that it's not a guarantee... at least when I used it they didn't guarantee it.

One of the good things about shipping it to my work is that they usually deliver everything to that workplace in the morning.  I got my copy of LA Noire at my desk by 11 am.  The bad thing about getting it at your workplace is that you want to play it but can't :(

And to speak on why people get games on Amazon on release day rather than Gamespot its two things for me.  First Amazon usually always has some store credit when pre ordering (got $15 for LA Noire).  Second, is living in CA Amazon has no tax, so its just 59.99.  If i went to Gamespot i would have had to pay for tax and don't get any credit back.  Before, Gamespot was a valid choice cause Amazon didn't have release day delivery (for free for Amazon Prime) so i could justify paying a premium (the CA tax) to get the game early from gamespot.  But now that you can get it on release day for less, much rather do it through amazon.

Although not getting your copy because of shipping problems is one of the fallacies of using Amazon but i guess thats a tough break.

Me too, but whatever. It's all good. I still haven't touched Portal 2 or even finished MK's story mode.
