First 40min HD video playthrough
I don't like watching playthroughs but I won't be getting my PS3 until I graduate(June) so I'll just take a taste of the game. Thanks for putting this up.
I can't fucking look away.
But this commentator is trying his hardest to make me quit watching...driving like a retard and piping up to say nothing anytime he can...
GTA mixed with Heavy Rain?I'm pretty sure the story isn't a joke and the controls aren't mediocre on purpose.
This further reinforced my feelings about the game. The simple truth/doubt/lie system coupled with the facial animations seems to be the only even remotely interesting thing about it. The shooting is auto-aimed Red Dead Redemption-style bullshit, the melee combat looks to be about as engaging as that of Uncharted 2 and the crime scene investigation is just you looking around the environment and pressing the "look closer" button.
Cool for people who just want to essentially watch a TV show while casually pressing some buttons to feel like they're actually participating in a meaningful way even though they're not (with the possible exception of the occasional interrogation, but I'm guessing most of those will be piss-easy and/or barely punish you for failure), I guess.

How are you guys watching this?! Mine has been sitting here doing absolutely nothing for 20 minutes. :'(Try a different browser or turn off adblocker. That always seemed to fix gameanyones videos for me.
I'm trying so hard to resist watching this! I shall not give in!
@CL60: Even refreshing? Maybe try another browser?

Haha, did you complain about Red Dead Redemption's shooting when you can turn off the auto-aim completely?
I can see how later on this will get really hard to figure out, but some of those chase scenes were just too awesome.

although he has good taste in video games, he is a very casual gamer. give him a break.
Edit: Well, turns out it just doesn't load fast the whole time for me. I have to wait for it to stream every once and then.

I didn't know "casual" was a synonym for annoying.
I'm gonna have to agree with Icemael on this one. Initially I was looking forward to this game, but in hindsight I should've known better. I don't know what this insistence is among game developers for making "interactive movies" rather than engaging and complex games. And then there's the internet community, who demands the OMG AWSUM STORYZ but doesn't seem to even understand what "plot" and "narrative" means.
There is not one, NOT ONE GODDAMN video game out there that has a respectable and well-written "story". Even the most well-acclaimed "story" games are B-movie Direct-2-DVD level writing, at best. And that's ok, because the focus oughta be on gameplay, because that's why people fork over the cash. It's depressing to watch this trend toward "press x to trigger cinematic" gameplay, its all flash and no substance.
L.A. Noire may not be the worst offender. But just look at the way the game relentlessly guides you by the hand and forcefully nudges you in the correct direction. The worst part is how Phelps declares "This does not pertain to the case" when he picks up a fucking coffee mug. Why can't the developers just let us use our own instincts to determine which clues are relevant, I mean it's quite frankly the least they can do. That kind of hand-holding is just insulting. Ah well.
Trust me guys, the people who are competent and experienced at the nuances of storytelling are not writing video games.
I'd go the complete opposite, very few movies have well written stories and the ones that usually do are based on a book or some other kind of media.
The focus doesn't always have to be about gameplay when the overall experience of the game is incredible.
Not only that, I would count quite a few video games that have very well written stories that could easily hold up to a lot of movies today.
