    An end to the rather bleak story of team bondi and their awesome game comes with their closure.

    Give the success of L.A. Noire i have to imagine that someone will produce a sequel but it won't be Team Bondi. The game is still due to come out on PC very soon so they must of finished whatever work they needed to before the studio was dissolved.

    That kind of sucks. Despite the tales of their horrible work conditions I like seeing an Australian game company making good games (despite the flack it got from a lot of people, L.A Noire was one of my top games this year).

    Man. Didn't see this happening. Figured Rockstar would have bought them by now and whipped the studio into shape. Bummer for those dudes, they put in a lot of hard work over a long while to make a great, great game. Hope everyone lands safely. :/

    These things can really become drawn out. I used to work for a company that was essentially dead in the water when the first round of layoffs hit last December. Even despite the debt issues (they couldn't afford their lease from January to April), they stayed in business until it was almost May, when they let go of what staff remained and shut down. The company was pretty much in survival mode the whole time and looking for ways to just stay afloat. I imagine that Team Bondi was the same way. Everyone could see them circling the drain, I'd wager that the executive staff was looking for a way to save the company, or at least their investment in it, and didn't declare the closure until they were completely out of options.

    This sounds weird. Didn't LA Noire sell a whole bunch of copies?

    @Captain_Insano:

    you mean... they had some really good ideas... and Rockstar ended up making it great, right? I remember reading how Rockstar had to send in their own staff to get Team Bondi organized and get the product on the shelves.

    I would love it if Rockstar picked up the ropes and crafted another one in house. They could certainly do it justice and flesh the world out a little.

    Yeah, but look how many years it took them to make it.

    Yeah, and given all the costs for new tech, it's no doubt that they probably lost tons of money in the process.

    The fact that they completely burned their bridges with Rockstar, one of the only publishers willing to spend the kind of money they did on L.A. Noire (last I heard, the game alone had been budgeted at around $110 million), probably didn't help matters either.

    LA Noire was alright as a game (lots of potential, not enough follow-through), but didn't meet the expectations generated by its large budget. Team Bondi became completely dysfunctional, and no one (especially Rockstar) had the confidence to work with them on any future games. It's no surprise they closed.
