I see more interrogations in your future.
I see more interrogations in your future.

Take-Two Interactive is a company that's been largely defined by Rockstar Games, especially the monstrous Grand Theft Auto franchise. Other Rockstar releases have been critically acclaimed but until last year's Red Dead Redemption, none of Rockstar Games' releases have achieved the same blockbuster sales.

It's unclear whether L.A. Noire will achieve the same status, but based on comments from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick on the company's financial call today, there's reason to believe it's doing well.

Zelnick was asked several times to compare the launch of L.A. Noire to Red Dead Redemption, especially after Take-Two announced the open-world Western game had sold 8.5 million copies so far.

"We certainly don't want to be subject to [comparing] all of our new releases of new franchises against the extraordiany success of Red Dead Redemption," said Zelnick. "Every title stands alone. We have every reason to believe L.A. Noire is another strong franchise for this company."

He would not, however, elaborate on sales specifics.

"No matter how you slice it," he said, "Ii's a very successful release. To be able to say that again is extraordinary. This management team is just immensely grateful to Rockstar for delivering another superb title and 2K [Games] for all the franchises they've been delivering as of late. One can never take that for granted. The hit ration of this group is extraordinary."

Following the successful release of a new property, Take-Two tends to toss the word "franchise" around pretty quickly. It happened to BioShock and Red Dead Redemption after both were released.

"We do see this [L.A. Noire] as a powerful new franchise for our company," concluded Zelnick.

So wait, theyre going to keep doing more games in LA? That could be cool, I hope they re-use locations from this game to speed up the development, but i bet  people would complain about them doing that.

    Exciting stuff indeed.

More Red Dead Redemption-ness? I'd love that. More L.A. Noire-ish-ness? I'd also love that

Great! This series definitely has the potential to be something fantastic, now that it's past its rough first hurdle.

I don't know that this should be a series.  It could be a cool system for an adventure game but if LA Noire 2 comes out, I will be disappointed.

They should include more "tactics" in the next one.
    waterboarding, ripping finger nails, etc.

EDIT::  MW: Noire. After capturing a P.O.I. you put the screws to them, figuratively and literally.

I think there's a lot of interesting potential ways they could expand the interrogations and free-roam parts of this game. There's a real possibility of a sequel that  improves this title as much as Assassin's Creed 2 did for its original.

I wouldn't want an L.A Noire 2, but New York Noire; Miami, Chicago ect. Even possibly London Noire? Personally I'd love this series to branch out like this and develop at least one sequel (though with that said, when does one game only have one sequel...)

I just know that I love the characters, the writing and the outstanding detail to everything that different cities with different characters would be awesome, and it'd give them the opportunity to better expand L.A Noire as an actual Detective game.

Red Dead was my duel GOTY for '10.

While I seriously enjoyed L.A Noire, for all its tech and gameplay and probably one of the top 10 games I have played this year it is certainly no comparison for red dead.

For me its like assassins creed. A series I love very very much and look forward to, but not GOTY material.

If they can improve upon their facial technology through a second iteration then I think that would be a step in the right direction for a new developer like Bondi.

On a side-note, does anyone know how much did LA Noire sell at this point or is that yet to be known?

After the greatness that is L.A. Noire I have a lot of faith in Bondi. Really excited to see another game from them.

And sounds like Rockstar has helped foster yet another hit. They're seriously batting a thousand this gen.

I keep seeing and hearing people say that 'LA Noire was good, but they should do this modern cops'. No, they shouldn't. If that were the case you'd either have to play as six different characters or be confined to a single avenue (either CSI or Interrogations) because modern police work does not allow you to inspect the evidence, interview the victims and chase the suspect. I just get the feeling it'd be like the 'Detective' bits from Batman, open up visual filter, let it find the item, approach the item. The Noir Genre is rich enough and broad enough that they can make several games in the same vein without being direct sequels. You know, like the Grand Theft Auto games, and hopefully how they'll handle future Red Dead installments.

@SteamPunkJin: Well, they could frame it like The Wire or something, where you play lead detectives who handle the case the whole way along. Or perhaps you work in a number of special task forces.

Even then, the multiple character concept is kind of cool too.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a contractual clause in there somewhere. It did take 7 years to develop and went from SCEA to Take-Two. It wouldn't take a whole lot to imagine another 3D Realms / Gearbox situation here: "We'll help you finish this long overdue game, bring it on the market and distribute it, but that means the game, for all intent and purposes, is ours".

I'm all for small, creative skunkworks (Team Bondi, DoubleFine, etc), but if they could finish things a little bit faster we wouldn't be in this mess.

I definitely wouldn't mind a direct sequel to LA Noire, but as others have said, I would love to see this same gameplay in a slightly different setting.

Of course, the dream would be a Phoenix Wright crossover, but that just ain't gonna happen.

It could be the beginning of a great franchise for sure, L.A. Noire lays down a solid base of ideas to build from. Kind of like Assassin's Creed in a lot of ways, even if I think L.A. Noire is a much better game on it's own.

Not sure what kind of story they want to tell next and if they're married to the noir concept or not, but a different setting for round 2 would get my vote. It might be a bit too similar to previous GTA's but I'd love to play detective in New York City during the late 70's, early 80's. Or go in the other direction and make a Sherlock Holmes style adventure set in turn of the century London. Whatever the successor to this game ends up being, I'm all over it.

It would be cool to see L.A. Noire's game-play in another time period, like present day or L.A. Noire 2052, possibly because I want to see Rockstar take their detail-oriented but massive scope and apply it to a futuristic setting.

It's a cool idea, I think they could implement similar gameplay in different settings and similar roles, but making it a series meh.  It kinda kills a special thing for me if we have LA Noire 2 in a couple years.

Nothing extraordinary about the success of Red Dead Redemption, it deserves everything it got and so do the folks working at their San Diego studio.
Rockstar have been nearly flawless this generation, and personally if they want to give some of their new IPs a second go I welcome it. I would really like to play as a cop in NY, modern day or not.

The sheer amount of time and resources required to make this truly special game make me doubt there will be a sequel any time soon. I'd love to see the same mechanics and tech in a different setting like others have said.
